| How many of you ever went to barn dances?
We had a neighbor who lived 2 mniles from us who had a dance every other Saturday night from Memorial Day to Labor Day. They were so much fun. I think a lot of couples met each other at these. |

| Many times. In fact, I was in the band! I played old time fiddle with a string band for nearly 20 yrs., mostly we played New England style contra dances but we also got hired for old time square dances. Some nights we had our own caller. Never made alot of money, but it sure was fun. We were (and still are) like a family. After that some of us formed an Irish ceili band and I played tenor banjo for another 7yrs. or so. Sore hands forced me to stop playing for dances but I still attend jams and music parties. The band still has a monthly contra dance in the area and occasionally I'll go to dance. Used to volunteer to take the money at the door but haven't for a few years. |
