I had a quiet day at home with no interruptions. I loved it. I worked when I wanted and rested when I wanted. Temps in low to mid 70s, a light breeze and low humidity...great day in Ohio.

I had stuffed peppers. Found some of the Amish whole wheat rolls in my freezer, so had one of those with it. Pleasantly filled at the moment.

Just a BLT. Cold day here. We are in shock in our area. Two Amish girls were abducted from their family roadside stand late yesterday afternoon.

Pam, I SAW that on the Yahoo news thread! How awful! I live in Amish/Mennonite country and something like that hadn't even crossed my mind happening. I'm sure it will be different now.

Weather stinks for August. Careful shopping not to stumble over the Halloween stuff! Spent all morning, and successfully hacked out a small tree growing into a chain link fence with a chisel. Relaxing with Happy Hour. Followed by wienies, fried taters and beans.....lots of ketchup. Don't forget some ice cream (on sale 2/$5), chopped nuts, cherries, smothered in chocolate.

I'm going to make a pot of my rice and mixed grains, cooked with chopped onions and celery and chunks of smoked sausage. I'll probably add some frozen black eyed peas, too. I'll steam up some pole beans and slice a fresh picked tomato. Easy and yummy.

I started with a handful of frozen grapes, as I stood staring into the fridge wondering what l was having. Well, I sliced some radishes and had a radish sandwich, plus a cheese sandwich, glass of milk, and finished with a bowl of cherry nut ice cream. Really gourmet dining!

Shrimp scampi for us.

I hung new shades on the deck. It faces west and the sun can be horrible while we are eating. The instructions said 15-25 minutes; I got it done in 40! Not bad for an old man.

80 degrees at the time of our evening meal, a big salad. Lettuce, carrots, onion, garlic, cucumber peppers all from the garden. I put a few craisins and Parmesan cheese on it and dusted with a bit of dill. And, one refrigerator dill pickle.

After Jasdip's great chicken yesterday, just hot dogs tonight.

Hearing about those two girls made me so sick to my stomach.

Lots of variety for dinner this evening!

Pam a BLT is good anytime. That's usually what hubby orders when we go out for breakfast (he doesn't do eggs)

Angela we had corn on the cob on the weekend and nuked it with the husks on. Have you tried that?

OF we were in a store today and the Halloween stuff was out along with back-to-school supplies.

Rhizo, I love the sound of your dinner every time you have that! B.e. peas I doubt I would like but that would be easy to leave out. I remember you said once it was a mix that you buy.

Phyllis, eating frozen grapes made me smile, then I saw the radish sandwich. I feel sorry for you LOL. Maybe we should all send you a bit of our dinners, and you'd have a feast!

KIttiemom, everytime I see you having shrimp scampi I want it. But we never buy shrimp. I'm going to have to just buy a bag of frozen ones once and for all and make it. :)

Radish sandwiches are soooooo good ! On buttered dark bread, lightly salted, YUM CITY ! Really good with a nice soup. I had pizza. Boring but easy. I'd freak out to find a bag of garden stuff on the doorknob. How nice !

Not yet. This was the last package in the freezer from last year. I am going to try it with the next fresh batch though. The salmon was sooooo good.

well it was almost 100 today and what did I have to make that my DH requested Beef Stew :-0 ugh... but i tried it in the crockpot and it came out great. I can not stand the gross inefficiency of the oven, even more so when it's mid Aug in Orlando LOL! This is the fourth big meal I've made this week and I'm done he can eat leftovers tomorrow. ~ liz

I just want to remind people of something very important about the nuked corn. Then, you can decide whether or not to try it.

Unless you are careful about buying certified organic corn, or are using your own organically grown corn....please know that sweet corn is a high pesticide use crop. Insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides may all be routinely applied in the field.

What protects us as consumers is that we ordinarily get rid of the husks and silks, where those pesticides linger. There's no way, ever, that I would microwave my corn surrounded by shucks with even a hint of those chemicals....makes me cringe to think about it on your behalf.

Just something I'd like you to think about. :-)

I had a heart catherization and angioplasty on Tuesday so I being even more careful eating a heart healthy diet. Seems like I have very small coronary arteries.
I had a big salad with chicken breast, organic mixed vegetables and tomatoes from the garden. And Mrs. Dash seasoning, local olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I missed using salt but know it will be easy to use fresh herbs and lemons from our yard.
For dessert I will have locally grown raspberries from my neighbor.

For dessert I will have fresh fruit.

Carol, that sounds delicious! I wish you all the success in future tests and in your healthy eating!

Liz, I took a container of beef stew from the freezer that I found. It was leftovers from the crockpot a few weeks ago. Loved it.

Rhizo, I hadn't even thought of that!!. I used to always nuke my corn, wrapped in waxed paper, and we loved it that way. I'll go back to doing that.

Carol, best wishes as you start this new phase of your life. Your dinner sounds wonderful....and similar to what we have for lunch or supper several times a week. Almonds and walnuts would be a good addition to your salads. Be sure to try salmon, too. :-)

It won't take long for you to get used to food without added sodium. I'm a label reader at the grocery store and no longer fill my pantry or freezer with the prepared foods that are so loaded with sodium that they now make me gag.

Jasdip, I'm glad that I've given you something to think about. The convenience (?) and novelty is not worth eating what could be corn steeped in pesticide laden steam.

Corn is a veggie that attracts lots of pests, especially when you grow acres of it. Chemical protection begins very early into the growing season and continues on until just weeks before harvest.
