If you want to share; I'd love to hear more about the lunch date - where you met; what you talked about; what was your first impression of him. Did he arrive on time? Did he stay off his cell phone? Did he suggest another lunch date?

Did he bring flowers or candy? Did he pay for lunch, or are those three things that considered old school now?

If it's of any consolation, the "real world" of meeting men has more than its fair share of con-artists, too - and the ones that "fall in love" - or something like it - within 10 minutes are not unheard of either! It's wonderful you had your friend to help screen the possibilities.

I've not been single since the early 90s. I was fortunate to be single and in the military so my chances of running into psycho axe murders were much slimmer than in the civilian world. I also had a large pool of eligible bachelors to choose from. I think the stats for when I was in was 14 men to every woman. Get togethers, or dance nights at the NCO Club, was always fun.

I could/would not survive in this modern world. Well, I would survive; I just could not consider dating. I applaud your bravery.

We met half way between our homes for convenience and went for a casual lunch (he paid). Both of us arrived a few minutes early and he was a gentleman. We just talked about things we like to do; different interests, etc. He even gave me a quick kiss and a hug. I don't know if we will have a second date but I hope so. He was very sweet. The only time we pulled out our phones was to show each other photos of our furbabies. He has two dogs and I showed him Myben

If you start out on a super casual basis, like someone to go to movies with, or to try out new restaurants (for example), it should be Dutch treat every time. That's what I would do. Then, see if it turns into romance.

I'm curious about the Con Man! What did he say in his emails? I'm really nosey about that, lol.

My wonderful nephew met his wife on Match. They've been married for three years and have a darling little boy. He was super shy and meeting online was perfect for him. They sure did click.

I agree about taking it slow, and paying your way on outings. Good friends often turn into relationships. And if you get along on a friendship basis, your marriage will probably succeed. Jodi and her husband were best friends for years and practically grew up together (if I remember that right)

I'm glad you had a nice time. I know a few couple who are married that met on the online sites.

I met my fiancé on okcupid so I recommend it, plus it's free. :) I liked match.com about 10 years ago but in recent years I think it's gone downhill. There are always exceptions of course but the two men I met there were pretty scary. One stalked me and the other...I don't know exactly but we met at a bar. All I know is I had one martini (I am a lightweight but one is fine!) and afterwards the room was spinning badly, I couldn't walk straight and he took full advantage of that.

These were both people who sounded totally normal in profiles, emails and phone calls. Obviously there are bad people everywhere and lots of people have met good people on Match. Just sharing my experiences as some advice to be careful.

My son hasn't had the best of luck on Match. Each gal was crazier than the one before. You wouldn't believe it if I told you about some of them. The last was a dinner out and as soon as the date was over (literally) she began stalking him, texting and calling 24 hours straight. Who the heck has time for all that? He showed me all the texts and calls. I had never seen or read anything like it. He decided to call it quits on that site and blocked her. Thankfully he is now dating a very nice gal who he has been friends with for a few years.

I quit Match.com after I was sent my ex's profile-lol.
