I had a call from this area code and be careful. Appears to be coming in from the Domingo Republic. They are targeting seniors and trying to get information like SS # , your Dr's name etc. I just say Hello, (once) and hang up. I do not push the button to not get any more calls.

There is an increase on these types of phone calls.

Just do not answer the phone for any number you don't know...problem solved.

I answer no calls from "unknown", "private caller", or numbers I don't know/area codes I don't know. I just don't pick up the phone. If anyone wants to reach me they'll leave a voicemail.

We're in but still only on a temp. CO. Waiting for a dry enough day to finish up the grading so we can get the final & looks like it'll be at least another week. We absolutely love our new home & it was totally worth all the stress! Kitchen - favorite features include the TV over the fridge and the snack drawers/coffee bar area. Kitchen Island - granite is Sage Brush from South Africa Great Room Covered Porch - I see us spending many, many evenings out here! Still need a few shutters, landscaping and the temp handrail will come down as soon as we get the final CO.

Look ma, no outlet box! I also lowered the electrical outlet today for a completely concealed install. Unfortunately, we lost "sleek" as a design option as soon as we decided that a compact 24" washer, and/or a small 240V condenser dryer just wouldn't work for us, and that we would have to go back to a much bulkier, much taller, standard-sized washer and gas dryer. Also, I changed my mind from the green Silestone, to the white Ikea countertop we already had, mainly because the more white we have in this area, the more unified it will tend look (notice the freshly painted, pure-white hall to the left). Although larger than I had originally planned, I think the full-sized, white-on-white Kenmore machines will look great within this all-white palette. Here is what I ended up doing: I ordered the Indonesian Daybed frame from World Market. It is not a living space but open to my living space. The cost was $329 as opposed to $849 Ballard bed, and the shipping was half of what Ballard charges. Of course I will still have to purchase a mattress. But I would've had to do that with the Ballard bed as well. I considered the bench, but since we do not have a guest room in our home, decided if we need an extra bed for an overnight guest, it would be great to have the daybed rather than the bench. We have lived here close to 5 years and have only had DH's brothers here in all the years we are here, so it wouldn't be that often, but it is good to have. I know it's a bed. We don't really sit over there anyhow. If I post a pic of what the space looks like now, you will all see what a vast improvement this will be. And since when guests come over, the space is the first thing they see upon walking into our home, I want it to look more like a defined space and not just a mish mosh of chairs, and toys, and baskets. I have 2 daughters, aged 6 and 8. Both are avid readers. It will be a fantastic place for them to curl up with a book. And to be honest, I look forward to doing this myself on occasion. I can't wait to put the room together. Hopefully this room will all be done by spring. Planning on new drapes as well, going to look at fabric tomorrow.

One of my motivations for keeping the sink/range where they are is to minimize labor costs, which seem to be almost two times higher for any work (on the plus side, it's as if all appliances and materials are 50% off). For example, a quote from a highly rated (for both quality and cost) installer to just hang the stock Ikea cabinets is $2000. I plan to go with them, or just do it myself. It's a small condo, so both walls are interior walls with no exterior access. The range hood duct currently vents to the exterior through the dining area (running straight between two ceiling joists). I'm hoping to reuse the existing 240V junction box where the slide in range currently sits for both the oven and cooktop to avoid breaking into the concrete slab to run thicker wiring. Will extending the countertop overhang from 10" to 15" help with safety and usability of the cooktop? The dining area isn't large enough to really take advantage of countertop seating. To keep the range in that position: 1. Move sink supply/drain lines several feet along existing wall. 2. Buy a more expensive, larger 36" range hood. But use existing ducting. To switch the sink and range: 1. Break concrete slab to route 240V across kitchen. 2. Run plumbing and drain line around kitchen wall. 3. Modify ikea cabinets to run supply and drain lines through them (the toe kick solution looks nice, but will require elevating all cabinets). 4. Modify ceiling to extend existing range duct across kitchen, and through two joists along the wall. On another note, I will probably go with a 30" GE induction cooktop with 28.5" cutout width requirement, as it seems to be the only one small enough that can fit the 30" ikea cabinet (which has two 3/4" sides for an opening of exactly 28.5"). But I'll have the countertop opening cut slightly larger so larger cooktops could be added in the future by shaving down the sides of the ikea cabinet.

Also be aware that many of these scammers leave a callback number on your answering machine and tell you they have an urgent message for you. When you call back they typically put you on hold or beat around the bush for as long as they can...while you get a charge of $5-$10 a minute on your phone bill.

They are still calling, received one today in January 2013.
We have phone ID on two phones and one TV. We strictly only answer and/or pick up calls from phone numbers we know.

Be also aware that phone numbers and names on the phone ID display can also be fake. Sometimes we get phone calls from different (fake) area codes shortly after each other, must be the same office calling.

I've been getting calls from them too and 1 at 7:30am this morning! Looked at my caller ID and simply ignored them.

I now set my ringtone to 2 and let the answering machine takes care of the rest. They get annoyed by it and stopped the call. With only 2 ringtones, it hasn't bothered me as much.

Thanks for letting us know who these scams are.

We get them too... but I simply ignore those that I don't recongnize and unknown or private caller.. I told Larry about that to. since he isn't used to a land line.. so he is learning..

I never knew how valuable Caller ID was until I got it!
The hang-up click I used to hear on my answering machine told me that it wasn't an important call, but my caller ID gives me the number so that I can see where these people are calling from. (Too many calls from the same donation company in one day mean that I take my stuff elsewhere, because I don't want money going to telemarketing; they already stuff our mailboxes with donation requests.)
