Check out Houzz.com. Lots of great ideas. You can search anything you want. Bathroom showers, vanitiesâ¦kitchen counters, cabinets, etc. In this case, put in a search for Interior doors. The latest thing is black! It looks pretty but I prefer plain old white. I think black would show dust a lot.

The key here is consistency. If there are other doors or doorway openings near this corner, then you need to be of a similar palette. Also, light (natural or electric) needs to be taken into consideration. Remember, you are doing this for you, not your neighbors or guests. Create something that will please you. The good thing about paint is that you can cover it with more paint if you don't like the way it turns out.

It sounds like you prefer natural and earth tones... can't you just use oak/wooden doors that are unstained so that they match the floor and trim? That's what I'd do. :)

I agree on the oak, or at least natural wood color on the interiors, so that they match the floor. Outside of front door can be any color that compliments your house.

The nice thing about paint is that you can chage color by repainting.

Georgysmom - Black and sleek would be so me, but would not work in this rough and tumble house filled to overflowing with a large, active DH and his even more active, large hunting dogs! Believe me, I've Houzzed, and Pinterested, and Googled imaged until I'm blue in the face.

White baseboards and trim seem to be the expected now. I've learned the hard way, with my three "bed" rooms that "white" does not stay "white," even with constant diligence! The trim in this room will be unstained oak.

Also, most homes are built with some rhyme or reason to where there can be closets, doors, etc., and some sense of scale and balance. I have a suspicion the people who built this house in 1952, and remodeled in the late 70s, were a bit tipsy.

I think the door choices has jelled in my mind. I do want them to blend in. They are in no way "features!"

This is on old, plain house in an old, plain neighborhood and town. I am hoping for "clean, dry, and serviceable" with a large dose of friendliness, welcoming, and basic comfort. The new heat pump/furnace/air conditioning system has added the real comfort and is the catalyst for all this spiffing up.

The trim and baseboards will be oak, unstained and finished to match the light floor. The baseboard molding is rather plain, about 5" tall. The oak window/door trim has a slight, non-descript molding to it. I think the doors should be the same satin finish, unstained oak, as the floor and new trim.

This is a well used room; it's a TV viewing room / sitting room just off of the kitchen. Two-thirds of the room is "living room" with a tiny "breakfast nook" at the south end, next to the closet area. It has 8' ceilings. There are two windows, two open doorways, and the front and closet door in this room.

I'm afraid the "artsy" painted doors I was envisioning would come off looking rather "college dorm" and lock me into only one wall color/furniture choice. I think using the light oak will keep everything subdued.

Do you think the visual weight of these close-set doors will be counter-balanced by the media cabinet and two 6' tall bookcase/cabinets I have planned to center on the opposite north wall?

My walls are painted a soft sage green; the ceiling is white. I think the crown molding will be white, too; but that will be another conversation posting.

Window and baseboard trim can have an impact on doorr color. Is your trim painted or stained?

The trim is "imaginary" right now, but it will be unstained, natural oak with a clear, satin finish and should be installed in a week.

To my eyes, the re-finished, unstained oak floor looks beautiful against the sage green walls.

Here's the floors, newly finished, with the framework for the wall extension and air exchanger. The smaller doorway to the kitchen will have a 14 inch soffit drop down from the ceiling.

The baseboards, door, and window trim will be the color of this floor.

As you can glimpse, the hall and bedrooms have white trim, although the baseboards have been removed in this photo. Never again, two dogs and one husband adds up to "no white trim" in livingroom.

This photo was taken by standing in the far northeast corner. No one will see this angle of the room since the media and bookcases will be on the north wall.

I'd make baseboards, sills, doors and door casings all unstained oak. Do you need to cover the wall/ceiling joint, or can you leave it plain?

An entry door can be whatever color is best with the front of the house on it's exterior and whatever is best with the interior on the interior side. Is there a screen/storm door?

If it were mine, I would make the oak doors, trim and casing slightly (just a shade or two) darker than the floors.
Picking up the darker shade in your floor pieces.

SalGal - the floor is just a shade darker than this photo shows. My contractor thinks the same thing, just a touch of stain on the baseboard, casings, and doors.

ChiSue - I am thinking of crown molding. The room does not need to have it; the ceiling and wall joins are fine and are painted with precision, but I do like crown molding.

The paint was touched up correctly after I took this photo! The ceiling was painted the same color as the top part of the walls, but the lighting makes it look darker.

If I ever repaint this ceiling I'll go down at least two shades from wall color.

I have the same crown in all three bedrooms, i.e., den, sewing room, and our bedroom.

I love it.

I was thinking oak moulding -- and fearing that would 'lower' your ceilings. White could 'lift' the ceiling.

I've put a bit of a warm wall color into the white for the ceiling. Maybe not with green -- or in a cold climate.

I know white baseboad is hard to keep clean....buuuuuuuuuuuuut......if it were for the sake of what looks good.....then I'd use white crown moulding in every room your willing to spend the time and money on it with white baseboard and door mouldings. The color of the front door....stick to the 3 colors you've selected for the outside of your home. For the inside of the front door what ever the wall color is....match it. Ceilings should be flat white, adding a spacious look.

I'd also pull out any non-load bearing walls to open it up "or" put columns in for supports if you need to.

Here's a remodel I did last Summer....2 walls got torn out to open it up and I painted the green walls a deep camel, goldish color that "were" in the upstairs hallway. Aim for a warm and inviting look...

Very pretty. I know you don't like the white for your upkeep, If it were my home I would do the doors and baseboards white. Benjamin Moore White Dove. Or, white baseboards/crown with either grey or black doors for punch. I personally don't like wood doors or wood baseboards. Post pics when you're done. I'm sure whatever you decide will be lovely.
