I've never heard of Heinen's grocery. I am not familiar with Safeway either, tho' I have heard of them. I don't think Safeway is common in Ohio,,, I can't recall ever having seen one.

I'm from Ohio, too. No Heinen's. We have Kroger's, Meijers, Remke's. Used to have Thriftway and Bigg's, but they are gone now.

If you do a search on Heinen's Ohio, it shows where the stores are. None in my area.

They are all up in the Cleveland area.

I have many Heinens near me. Since walking in that store, I measure every store by that standard, and most fail miserably. They know where every piece of meat comes from, and the farm owners names. They carry the best products, and their Two Brothers products are top notch
If you are getting a Heinens near you, jump for joy. You will love it.

Jenuwin, I've now visited the first Heinens to open here. It's much brighter than the former Dominick's/Safeway and has much more 'fresh' and just two short aisles of 'frozen'. Prices are higher than my local Jewel (big chain), but lower than little Fresh Market, which is more 'specialty' with lots of imports.

I'm trying to guess 'fallout' here. The Heinen's are the latest arrivals, each 10 minutes from my home (one north, one south). The small and mundane Jewel is 5 minutes from me -- Fresh Market is next door to it. Mariano's combo of upscale/usual is farther than I want to drive regularly; same with low-market Aldi's. Five-store-'chain' Sunset Foods is smaller, older and plainer than Heinens, but also with upmarket goods -- 8 minutes away from me. Costco is 12 minutes away.

I'd guess that Jewel and Sunset may suffer the most, hit from both ends by Heinens and Costco. Safeway was smart to exit Chicagoland last December.
