Good Thursday Afternoon

We finally got some rain and I was looking forward to seeing how much we got. Just my luck the rain gauge was laying on the ground! Possibly raccoons did it as they had a party last night in my sweet corn! I just got through making 13 jelly jars and a custard cup of raspberry flavored zucchini jam. I hope it sets up. The flavor is good though even if it doesn't get like jam should be. It is still hot. I fixed smoked sausage with onions, peppers, and zucchini and spaghetti sauce for my lunch. Cheryl came and and had to eat some of it too as it really smells good. She is coming back in awhile and going to try and pick some more sweet corn before the raccoons get more of it. She has been freezing it for us. We did get a nice amount of rain is all I can say for now. Did anyone else get rain today and what have you been doing?

No rain yet, hope we don't get any because the grass needs mowed and I need to paint a door. Just got back from Wal-Mart to pick up paint and a few other things. We got burgers from Burger King for me and Maria. Love their Whopper Jr. with cheese.

Trying to get things ready for our exchange student who will be here tomorrow.

It started to rain here this morning and has been continuing all day, a nice slow, constant drizzle. Boy do we need it. The temps cooled off considerably. It's currently 20C (68F).

I made potato salad yesterday for today's dinner, but I feel like hot potatoes. We're having the potato salad anyway.

Hi Y'all! I tried to go back to sleep early this a.m. after being up for a couple of hours and it was hard to sleep because there was so much thunder and lightning. Then, when I was finally dozing off, the weather radio went off TWICE within about a 30-minute time frame. The first time was to tell me that G.M.'s county was under a Flash Flood Warning. The second time was to tell me that our county was under a flash flood warning. I did finally fall back asleep and get about 3 more hours of sleep. Randy, I remember thinking to myself in January or February that I hoped we'd have lots of thunderstorms this year because I love falling asleep or waking up to the sound of a good rainstorm, and I REALLY missed that during the drought. What a fool I was!!!! Today what I am really missing is heat and sunshine...and sleep! Go ahead and complain about the lack of sunshine and heat whenever you want. You're sure to get a lot of agreement from many of us that we want some heat and sunshine too. Courtney, Do you have a space heater? If you have one that blows warm air, you can speed up the drying of your concrete with it. That is, assuming the rain isn't pouring there like it has been here. Right now, I am on a new calendar and a new clock, different from the one we used for so many years. DH's hours have always been 'odd' because police work is not an 8 to 5 type thing, but the hours have been horrible since his most recent promotion. He's hardly had any days off, but it is finally beginning to settle down a little. However, between him getting up in the middle of the night to go to work, and our son working 24 hours on/48 hours off, our regular routine has disintegrated and no one around here is getting the right amount of sleep. Everyone is also on a different meal schedule. It has been crazy. AND, whenever we have a time when we are all three at home (4 counting son's girlfriend who is here at the house a lot) and we are about to eat a meal together, the fire pagers go off EVERY SINGLE TIME. It is uncanny. In between rain showers I run outside and pull weeds. At least the weeds come up out of the wet ground more easily than they otherwise would. Oh, Courtney, flip flop tan lines! I haven't had those in so long since our snakes and scorpions scare me too much for me to wear flip flops! Merryheart, My rain gauges do that too and I suspect it has something to do with the angle at which the rain falls or the angle at which one of the gauges is leaning. The rain gauge that is nailed to a fence post 3' above the ground always has a slightly higher reading than the one that is stuck into the ground. I think the one stuck in the ground tends to lean over a little now and then, maybe, and not catch quite as much rain. We are having 1.5" of rain a day.....1.5 inches on Thursday, 1.5 inches on Saturday (I emptied the gauge at bedtime) and 1.5 inches so far today. You have had so much more rain than us! It is coming in waves here as it rains a little, stops, rains some more, then stops again. I think it is going to be a very long and soggy day. I have been hearing the Carter County street maintenance guys on the scanner as well as some of the Carter County fire departments. It sounds like they had to close and barricade some roads in your county to keep people from driving through high water. I have also heard them discussing the removal of "sand bars" washed into some roads. It is pretty quiet here, except for one reported 'water leak' at an intersection in town. I find it hard to believe there is a water leak, but think that maybe there is a backed up storm gutter or something. Since it is broadcasted by NBC, I would bet that you'll have no worries. It comes on at noon everywhere, after Macy's parade. Most people don't know that the National was really conducted earlier this month and the Thanksgiving tradition is taped programming. The results are a closely guarded secret, that's for sure.

Donna, I have 3 Dream Queens, got them at the same time. Two are disappearing, one looks great but has been a slower grower for me also. The one that looks good has morning sun, the other two were in shade. I just moved the two slackers to a sunnier spot, will see how they do. I worked my tutu off today. Honestly I have no idea where all the dust comes from. The base of the TV in the family room is shiney black and OMG it was so dusty. I thought to myself shame on you Mama what if someone happened to drop by and saw your pig pen..than I remembered outside of my kids no one visits. Lol. So it was a long day of housework. Than during dinner clean up I thought I really should scrub the frig out but decided to save it for morning. I have some deep cleaning I'd like to get done before the holidays providing I can find the energy which isnt looking very promising.

No rain here yet. But 'they' say it is coming.

I just stirred up some grape salad to take tomorrow to my sister's. A friend wrote down her recipe for me some time ago. Got the ingtedients she had listed at the store this morning, but after I got home, I got to thinking that something was missing. Went to the internet to search recipes...good grief, there must be a million variations, but all have sour cream, which friend didn't list and I didn't have. So, sent hubby back to the store. Now I have to go make pasta salad for tomorrow. I know that I have everything I need for that.

We had two--count 'em--two, rains this afternoon. It rained good but not for long around 3, then around 3:30 it rained again and just stopped a few minutes ago. I saw on the news that your weather in Indiana is going to cool off because of a cold front coming down from Canada. Thank you Canada!! My DS and BIL just left for southern Indiana today to start clearing out his mother's house. She died last month at the age of 100.

Sue, your garden is the gift that just keeps giving!! You're going to have a houseful of full canning jars before long. Good thing, too. Because of the drought, groceries are supposed to go even higher than they are now. Your lunch sounds good!!

My sister and I went to Amish country today. I have a lot less money in my purse, but lots of good things, some ready to eat, the remainder for many meals to come.

Gazania, you gave me a chuckle with your 'they' say it's coming...... One of these days, I'm going to meet 'they'.

It's acting like it's going to storm/rain here soon. I like the rain but not that 'possibility' of severe with hail and winds. Might rain most of the day tomorrow.

No rain, just the same ole, same ole heat is back on full furnace blast.

I washed dishes before going to work this morning, and worked on my "crappy go to work bike" after getting home. Rode the long way home, as I stopped at the hardware store. Showed them a picture (on my digital camera) of what I needed for my storm windows, but was told to bring one in to make sure they sell me the right size.

Sooo, drove over, and left a window there. The guy that works in that department had left for his dinner break. Just my luck.

Now I have to go back.

Meanwhile, I fixed a latch on a cabinet door.

Huge storm this morning. Power outages, streets flooded downtown. More to comes, as news just said.

I took a friend out today, she's in very early stages of dementia and is depressed. We shopped for a couple hours in four different stores, neither one of us bought much but it was good to spend some time together. I think she enjoyed herself. Rained in the morning rather hard, but then got very humid. Right now, there we have a light rain.

Shirley, where in Amish country did you go today? I live in Wayne County right next door to Holmes Co.

Sorry to take so long to answer you, schoolhouse, but right after I posted yesterday, a line of thunderstorms started coming through our area and didn't stop until after I'd gone to bed. I shut down my pc when there's a storm.

I go to an area in Holmes county. Until I looked it up just now, I always thought it was in Tusc county. Small world.
