Surgery gery Over- All is well

Well Thursday the docs took out my entire thyroid and 3 out of 4 parathyroid glands. They got out all the nodules and there's NO Cancer! My parathyroid hormone is now at a '"normal" 15 count, down from 400, so all is good. I went home the next day, there's a little "discomfort" but I'm so happy it's all over! Thanks so much for your prayers and good wishes. I am now praying a big "Thank You" to The Big Guy.

I've been wondering how you were getting along. Had marked your surgery date on my calendar. I am so glad that it's over and that you have good news. I will join you in thanking Him. Now I pray that the news is always good.

Yippee! I'm back in the saddle again -- so to speak :-) Sure feels nice to touch-type again even if the fingers are sore. I'm supposed to use the hand; Dr. says I can't injure it since the plate is holding the bone quite securely, (didn't ask about using the pick-ax ... LOL) and though it hurts like fury I have to clinch and open it 1000 times a day -- ouch! But it is loosening up with movement. The stitches come out in a week. Modern medicine is wonderful. Bob said I should have asked the Doc if I could play the piano now. When Doc said 'Yes' I could reply 'That's great -- I never could before'. :-) It's an old joke he's probably heard a hundred times. Incidentally, I didn't really hit Bob the Mulch Guy. Surprised? LOL I was stooping over on unlevel ground digging around a plant with a trowel, lost my balance and sort of gently rolled over. Everything would have been fine if my hand with the trowel in it had not been between my shoulder and a landscape timber. No need to reply to this post. Just let the thread go down. Happy gardening!

I would suggest that you first see your present doc. Hear what he has to say and then, before doing anything that he suggests, get a second opinion ASAP. Bring copies of all your records from your present doc, everything that is in his charts including the operative notes, any xrays, MRI, CT scans. Everything. Get your second opinion from a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon that specializes in the shoulder. You should have healed from that surgery by now and not be having any problems. I had similar problems from ortho surgery on a tendon in my arm. Long story short, my biggest mistake was not getting a second opinion before surgery and not using a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon. In June I had to have spinal surgery and used a sports medicine doc specialized in spinal surgery from the same practice that I got my after the fact second opinion on my non healing arm. They fixed my arm fine, and also my spine as well. The regular orthopedic docs said at leas 12 months to recover from the spinal surgery and very large incision in my back. Was in an out in 12 hours and almost fully recovered from spinal surgery with a 1 inch incision scar in my back and it's only been 3 months!!!!! I would never use just a regular orthopedic surgeon and always get a second opinion. Good luck and let us know how you are going.

Fingers crossed they got it all. I survived Hodgkins lymphoma over 22 years ago, and I know that even if there is something remaining they can treat it. Sending good thoughts out to your son, you and all concerned!

It's Wednesday morning. I slept well last night, but when I woke up my left hand looked swollen. The bandage will be off in just a few hours. Also have an appointment at the transplant center to go over my kidney readings.

I didn't want to use the word pain, but after surgery I have a very stiff neck and bad case of laryngitis. Docs say both are temporary. "Discomfort' is doctors' code for pain, just like they say "You'll feel a little sting, a little tug..." But, all in all, I'm on the mend. I looked at the wound yesterday and it's not terrible, all taped up with Steri-Strips (like little band-aids) .
