| The Michigan U.P., in particular the Keweenaw Peninsula, is home to a thriving community of local artisans! Local stores are full of beautiful, hand crafted items. Art fairs are easy to find and very enjoyable. One of our favorites is 'Art in the Park' at Eagle River, MI, and it is coming up this Saturday! Last year, I bought a copper spider web (about 1 1/2 foot across) with a copper spider on it. It's hanging in the corner of the pergola that is over our deck at the cabin. The year before, it was glass wine bottle stoppers and recipe card holders that were part of my kid's Christmas gifts. And the year before, it was a fired clay toothbrush holder with a beautiful rustic out-doorsy painted border. Wonder what it will be this year.....
This copper Christmas tree ornament is one of quite a few different designs that the artist creates using real leaves for a base. I buy each of my kids one for Christmas each year. Last year I started taking pictures and keeping a record after having duplicated a leaf design from a previous year :-) Do you have artisans/artists in your community? If so, do you have some photos of crafted items to share? Just thought it might be fun! |

| Gorgeous, Jel. I haven't been to our arts walk in a long time. Lucky kids! |

| We live on the Monterey Peninsula, about three miles from Carmel, and our area is full of artists, artisans, craftspeople, and more galleries, craft stores, antique stores, and consignment stores than one can count. We are surrounded by art, and the beautiful scenery that inspires it. But Jel, what I really enjoyed is your writing about the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan's U.P.! Several decades back I lived there with DH#1, who was in grad school at Michigan Tech. We had three very nice years there in the midst of that glorious natural setting! I am glad to hear that artists are thriving there now, and love those lacy copper designs. |
