I just registered my cell phone with DO NOT CALL REGISTRY--------------------------------------- FCC regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the industry, so most telemarketers are barred from calling consumers on their cell phones without their consent. The federal government does not maintain a national cell phone registry. Personal cell phone users have always been able to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry  the same Registry consumers use to register their land lines  either online at www.donotcall.gov or by calling toll-free 1-888-382-1222 from the telephone number they wish to register. Registrations become effective within 31 days of signing up and are active for five years. There is no cut-off date or deadline for registrations.

We recently got a PD and then the "Alert" call. I get messages to my cell, phone and email. We had a rash of home break-ins that was unusual in our area. I signed up for it then, and was so thankful that I got the message that he had turned himself in. I think he hit 5 houses on one street! One of the homeowners had a security camera, and another neighbor who had been hit, convinced him to show the pics to the police. Problem with having the system - I get too much, like City Council agendas. But I also know what's going on in our city, and even which roads to avoid because of accidents, etc. To go from not having a PD, to having the "Alert" system as well, is HUGE for our area. The small town has grown to a full city, albeit small. It's a good feature.

How long has it been since BM has called before this? If "quite a while" is a couple weeks ago, then I'd go with what MO4 said about you know how she feels, but she shouldn't catch an attitude. If "quite a while" is 6 months, a year, more, then I would have let her talk through the whole night if she wanted and then sleep in in the morning if that was a possibility. My daughter's father was on the 6 months to a year plan for a while, but he never bothered to call or see her for more than an hour at a time, so the problem has never come up for us. Now it's been well over 2 years since he's seen or talked to her, and the last time was only because we were out to eat and he was a couple tables away. She seems to have let him go now, but before he came around just often enough for her to really yearn for that attention, and it just broke my heart so much that I would have paid him to call and talk to her all night. Now I hope he gets hit by a bus because he's finally given her enough time that she has learned to go on without him and she does not miss him and stress over him like she used to, and I'd just like to keep it that way, but that's a different story.

Well being that I work in our schools at all the levels. I don't know what kind of tool they could be classified as. Unless they all have smart phones and internet access..they could do research..but that is certainly stretching it. LOL In Elementary..phones are to be turned off in backpacks out of reach for the day. (we have a lot of latch key kids in our community) In middle school, the phones are to be turned off and can be kept in pockets or back packs and brought out at Lunch. In high school, here's where it gets a bit tricky. Technically the rules are the same as Middle School..however there are some teachers that use them themselves and check their phones often and allow the kids to have their phones on and in use in class, unless it's during a test. But there are more teachers that will confiscate a phone than not. The kids do know which teachers allow phones and which don't. Over the 2 months I worked at our 9/10th grade campus last year, I had 5 or 6 phones turned into me for parents to come pick up. Did you know that kids can text without looking under their desks? It's quite an "impressive" skill to see..LOL
