Do You Wash Your Vera Bradley Purse

I only own ONE Vera Bradley purse (neighbor's adopted me as their "Mom" and gave it to me for Mothers Day). So..I've been using it since May..and it needs a bath! lol It has the washing instructions on the tag..but I need to know if I leave the plastic stabilizer in the bottom..or remove it. I tried taking it out..but it's not wanting to come out!

Gee I love the internet....did a search "how to wash a Vera Bradley purse" and here is some information...but not how to remove that piece, but it does seem like you should if it's not plastic.

When I wash mine, I just remove the hard bottom and zip it up and wash in machine on gentle. I dry it by hanging it on the door knob with zipper open and when outside is dry, I turn it inside out and let it dry some more.

I will post more later-- thank you so much for the continued replies. They are very helpful. I am OK, though. Don't feel bad for me. I don't. I feel bad for the problems I have caused for society-- this is now everyone's burden. My bank is taking care of the $ completely, so the only thing I am out is my time in taking care of this, as well as being vigilant about protecting my ID (since they have my license) and never letting this happen again. I am most concerned that my daughter was with me. This means that I put her in danger. I normally do not go out late at night, and I would never normally bring her then either on the rare occasions I go. But, she has been upset lately that we do not get much time alone together, so against my better judgment I said yes. I was getting a hard-to-find item for my niece. Could have waited until the a.m. I will not forgive myself for doing what I felt was wrong, and doing it anyway. My bag kept falling off my shoulder, and since the store was not crowded, that is when I put it in my cart. Then I said to myself, "What the heck am I doing with it here?" and put it back on. I admit-- I never thought of pick-pocketing. I thought my whole purse would be gone. Very smart to only take the wallet!

I have left my purse in the trunk sometimes but I never put it in at my destination - always before I arrive. It does still make me nervous as I've been with people twice who came out to find their entire car stolen!! Here's another one I just heard about where I live. You know how people leave their purse in their grocery cart? They keep a close eye on it but may look away for a few seconds to grab something? A woman on the radio described how she did this - even kept her grocery ad over her purse so it wasn't visible. While she was quick looking away, someone asked her for help finding something while the other party reached under the paper into her purse and took her wallet. I usually don't let my purse out of my sight at all but I used to always keep it in the cart. No more - I keep it on the shoulder at all times.

I didn't see that any of you have ever weighed your purse to see how much extra weight you might be hanging on your shoulder. I know my purse is WAY too heavy, but I can't seem to pare down the "ingredients". I just weighed it and it is a tad over 5 and a half pounds. My job is not in the same town I live in, so I feel that I need to be prepared for all contingencies, LOL. I do have a wonderful organizer (actually, my purse is so large that for a while I had TWO organizers in it) and I can always lay my hands on exactly what I am looking for. I know my Kindle adds weight, but still less than the book I previously carried around pre-Kindle. Just this weekend, I decided I would clean out anything unnecessary, and you know what? I couldn't think of a thing to remove. Very few articles of my clothing have pockets and I'm "fluffy" enough so that I don't want any extra bulk in that area anyway.

Definitely. I remember bring my oldest child to her freshman dorm. We had time between meetings (parents were oriented too), and so we made up the bed while her roommate did the same. Oh my goodness, the tiny room smelled awful from the sheets straight out of their packages. So off they went to do their first load of laundry! Towels are more absorbent once they are washed, and do not use fabric softener with them.

All is well! Took some fighting, but I did get the stabilizer thingy out of the bottom. Glad I did..it's cardboard. Thick cardboard...but cardboard! Mine doesn't have a zipper, so I just snapped it shut. It's hanging and drying right now! Sure looks a lot better!!

Glad you to the time and effort to get the cardboard out....and that it washed well. You would think they would put a note in bags telling you this part wasn't washable OR why not find a plastic that would work...

Sue...who wears a cheap fanny pack from W mart, where they are not being sold anymore. Started wearing one when recovering from knee replacements and could not handle a cane and a purse. It's so heavy can't wear it as an across the body purse.

I wash mine by hand just like all the others said. No problem at all. Hang to dry.

Vera Bradley does include a small tag on the inside of each bag that has a removable bottom piece. The rag reads:

"This Vera Bradley bag has a solid base. Please remove base before washing."

The only problem is they don't give detailed instructions on how to get the darn thing out LOL!

I recently washed mine, but reluctantly thinking it would pucker up, fade or whatever. But it looks good as new. The bottom in mine just lifts out, must be cardboard covered with the matching fabric. Watch their site--they sometimes have some good markdowns. Not sure if I'll get another print, their blacks are so nice and black. That might be next.

I removed the bottom cardboard (there was a tag that came with the purse) and washed it in my washing machine with two towels. Line dried. I had to wash it, it came from my DDIL and they have cats. Everytime I used it I was sneezing and my eyes itched like crazy. It came out beautiful! My bag is one of the very large ones.

After washing and drying mine I spray it with Scotchgard to help keep it clean.
