Rediscovering Ed McBain

| It's been years since I read any of Ed McBain's 87th Precinct novels, but I found two in the attic recently and started reading Widows, which I'd never read. I'd forgotten what a good writer he is! I love the style and the stories. Reading Widows made me want to revisit Vespers, the book that came before it (all the books feature the same characters), so I ordered that one from Amazon. I'll add McBain to the list of writers I look for at our libraries' book sales.
Before there was Ed McBain there was his first pen name, Evan Hunter. I loved his books too. I think Blackboard Jungle was the first. Reading Mothers and Daughters led to my second daughter being named Gillian.
Any other Ed McBain/Evan Hunter fans?

Yup.....we have a boat load of his books. My husband's read them all. I've read a lot but it's been a while since I have. Great writer.

Gosh, it has been years, but I enjoyed reading his 87th precinct books. I've been re-reading two authors lately, Mary Stewart and John D. MacDonald. I became tired of all of the perverted serial killer and terrorist books that are so popular right now and decided to return to the simpler themes of murder for greed or love...LOL!

Oh, I loved both Mary Stewart and John D. MacDonald years ago! When I worked at Lincoln Center we had a group thing going where we would pass around MacDonald's books to share. We had a list on the bulletin board of who had which book. Lots of fun! I was in Florida (where he lived) when he died during heart bypass surgery.

Read many of his books. My Dad was a huge cop thriller type of book reader, and turned me on the many of those types of books. I should give them a look again, loved them.

Boy does that bring back memories. My mother loved all the Ed McBain books and I remember reading them when she was done. I was only about 11 or 12 years old but I loved the character and the writing. Thanks for sharing Susan; I think I'll put a couple on my wish list at Amazon. I also remember sneaking "The Carpetbaggers" from her pile of books. Oh gosh, my first hot and steamy book! What great memories of summers past..... Susan
