Monica, you've finished your kitchen remodel? I'd love to see pics. I'm in the planning stages and I can't decide on the cabinets. I'm torn between a cream color or wood tone. I'd love to see yours.

GE had this same problem a few years ago. It's a wiring thing, if I recall correctly.

I'd bug 'em, Monica. Squeeky wheel and all that. Who installed the unit? Might you get service faster with them?

When I had trouble with our then-one-year-old Fisher Paykel, I was much too patient. Finally called the company director of sales and got a new set or dishdrawers installed that week -- with a new warranty.

One more piece to be done.
The cabinets are 30 years old...Tom built them, and they're solid oak with a Maple stain.
We only replaced ceiling, fixed and repainted walls, new tile floor and countertop(with new sink and faucet).

We may yet replace the freezer.

I'd still love to see a picture. I have so many decisions to make. I'm leaning toward a cream color cabinet with dark brown granite. But I'm not sure on the sink or faucet. I love how you say you "only" replaced the ceiling, fixed/repainted walls, new tile flor and countertop with new sink and faucet. That's a remodel! LOL I bet your cabinets are gorgeous and how special that Tom built them.

We had been in our new home for about three months when Maytag recalled our dishwasher--danger of bursting into flame!
Be very, very careful who you get to repair your dishwasher. We got stuck with a company that, after three months and two house calls and "I'm sorry I broke your dishwasher" from the repairman, we still did not have a dishwasher that worked. I called Maytag, raised a ruckus, got another company to do the repair who, after seeing the dishwasher, called Maytag and got a "change out" which was a new dishwasher.
Bosch is much higher-end than Maytag. They should have competent authorized repair people, but if you don't feel confident when the guys show up--call Bosch while they are there and find out what your alternatives are. We were without a dishwasher for almost four months, when the whole thing could have been resolved in two weeks with a competent repair firm.

Monica, we just did a kitchen remodel too and have a Bosch dishwasher, oven and microwave. What model DW was recalled?

My Bosch dishwasher is not on the recall list - "close" though in terms of model number so I called to be sure. Bosch machines are not what they were - and the recall notice came from Maytag! Personally, I wouldn't use the machine - we have already had to replace the electrical panel as it burned out way too soon - Bosch paid for the part, but not the labour which cost the same as the part. Had a problem with the Bosch oven as well - a problem with the top convection element - was a fault with the design so parts were on serious backorder - once again, paid for part but not for labour - again - cost was same - so I figure something was up. Last week it was the electric igniter for the gas cooktop - the oven itself is electric. I turned on the cooktop and heard/smelled the hiss of gas - but no flame. Bosch was not our choice - wanted to go with something more reasonably priced - particularly since I live in Canada and Bosch costs more there - but we have a space problem - depth wise. I hope everything works out for you. Oh, and so far we have also had to have the soap dispenser totally replaced on the Bosch dishwasher - and last week the water tap under the bottom of the unit - when machine filled/rinsed sounded like a screaming cat. The spin cycle failing on the clothes washer was a blast too.

eccentric...my phone calls came directly from Bosch. it was a Bosch number on the caller-id, and when I called them back, I talked to Bosch customer service.
I was given a list of 3 Bosch-certified repair companies in my area, and a company we have used before, and is highly rated by others...was on the list.
I called them, and gave them the reference number the Bosch rep. gave me. I was assured that they would order the part needed for my model, and that there would be no cost to me at all.

I don't know why you think Maytag is involved...unless Bosch markets through Maytag in Canada - and that is not true here.

Darn, mine isn't on the list. I want someone to service it and while they're inside, clip the darn wire to the bleeping beeper. I've written seven letters to Bosch asking for instructions to turn it off so that I can do dished and go to bed. As it stands now, at the end of the washing cycle, it beeps every few minutes until we get up and open the DW door or turn the thing off. Very, very annoying. Bosch keeps sending me instructions for the wrong model. I have sent them a photo of the model and s/n and told them repeatedly that their instructions are for another model.

monica_pa - re Maytag and Bosch - I was kind of surprised when I received the notice - actually I have received 2 notices and had to call - and of course since I have never bought Maytag appliances it was kind of a mystery. I spoke with 2 different people due to 2 notices over a year period and both were kind of uncomfortable when I pointed out that I have never purchased Maytag appliances - and both had to finally admit that they do make some of the parts for Bosch. This did not come as a surprise to me! Back in the day Bosch were made in Germany - mine was made in the U.S. - or maybe "assembled" in the U.S. - from parts made I can only guess. If made in Canada parts would come from same place. I know I have seen posts on this forum from people who have been told by repairmen that Bosch appliances no longer have the reputation they once did - and have seen same on a Cdn. forum I frequent. So I really hope that come replacement time, I can find appliances that will fit the "holes" in the counter.

 Open the door (for hidden controls only). Turn unit on using the ON/OFF button.
 Hold down "A" button and press START button until the display shows H:00.
 Release both buttons.
 Press "A" until the display shows "b:02".
 Press "C" to increase or decrease the tone.
 b:00 = Off and b:03 = loudest
 Press START to save the setting

That would be really annoying.. esp if they aren't being much help to you.

FYI, I *think* with the units that the recall applies to, you can also opt to get a monetary credit towards a new dishwasher, as well.

It sounds ironic that a dishwasher could burst into flames, but all things considered (wiring and such)....I guess so.

Jodi, how annoying! I hope you can get that fixed! I've seen your kitchen and it is so pretty. It's one of the finished kitchens on GW that people actually remember and refer to often.

Ofealia, there are no "A" and "C" buttons on my dishwasher control panel.

Bosch sent me instructions awhile back along with an actual image of my control panel and then gave me a set of instructions which told me to press the "Cancel Drain" button, yada yada. Problem being, there is no "Cancel Drain" button on my control panel or the image they sent me. I sent them an email back telling the this and asking what I was missing because there clearly is no "Cancel Drain" button. Never heard back. That was on July 16th. My first email to them is dated May 11, 2009. ... sigh

Find the button at the right end of the line (probably labelled Pots & Pans, Half Load, or some other wash setting). Hold that and the power button down until you see a 0,1,2 or 3. Hit the button again till you see a 0 in the display. Then hit the Power button to lock in the selection

monica_pa - Today on the Cdn. forum I frequent a poster has started a thread called "I Hate My Bosch Appliances". She, like me, has discovered that Maytag makes many of the Bosch units and is having the same issues I have had and am having. Two other posters came back stating same issues. European Bosch machines are a totally different story. Another lady is having major problems with her LG appliances whereas another is not. Maybe the day of the week. But I thought it rather timely that someone in Canada would also post that she found as, as did I, that Maytag makes Bosch - at least for sale in Canada. Actually I got the information that Maytag makes Bosch from the Bosch people in the U.S. - I called there because really there is no where to call in Canada that will actually answer you.

ecc...I don't know or care who made the various parts for my Bosch dishwasher 9 years ago. I just want it fixed...it's an excellent dishwasher, and there has not been a single problem with it since it was purchased.

I'm not sure where all this information that Bosch is made by Maytag is coming from but I've been servicing Bosch appliances since 1999, Maytag, Frigidaire, GE & Whirlpool long before, and can say that there is not even a remote similarity between a Bosch and Maytag dishwasher. Their pumping systems are different, their heating systems are different, the timing systems are different, their dispensing systems are different, even their water valve is different. If fact the only thing these machines have in common are they are both dishwashers.
I can also say that I've been using a Bosch D/W since 2000 and it's truly the best dishwasher I've ever used.

I know that A&E service has been doing some of the dishwasher recalls in my area and maybe this is where some of the confusion is coming from. When Whirlpool purchased Maytag the Maytag techs had to become A&E techs and A&E is basically run by Sears who dispatches all their calls.

I wouldn't mess with it until it is repaired by an authorized repair man. It's not worth the danger of loosing your home.
