Liquid and Dry Laundry Detergent Recipe

The recipe is also on Joann's KT Gathering Place.

1 Fels Naptha bar soap (Sunlight Bar for Canadians)
1 cup washing soda
1/2 cup borax
4 cups hot water

Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan of hot water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap is melted.

Fill a 5-gallon pail half-full with hot water. Add melted soap, washing soda and borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Add more hot water until the pail is full.
Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.

The next morning it will be a gel-like consistency.
Dilute the gel 1/2 and 1/2 with water in a laundry jug.

Use 1/2 cup for top-load machines and 1/4 cup for front-load. (I just fill the cap on the laundry jug)

The concentrate can be used as a stain pre-treater.
It works great to remove carpet stains!

It can also be used as dry, just grate well, using a food processor if you like. 2-3 TBSP per load.

Because these are no-suds they are great in front-load machines.

I had trouble finding Fels Naptha and of all places, the local Ace Hardware....I was there looking for something and saw it..........

I prefer the dry as doesn't take up so much storage space and dissolves well in the washer, even using cold water. I make up a batch and store it in one of the big, round ice cream buckets and put an old TBSP measuring spoon in with it to measure the amount.

Wal Mart in someplaces seem to be keeping all the ingredients now.
