ASUS
Processor: AMD A8-3800 2.40 Ghz, 5 core
RAM: 8 GB
Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit
Service Pack 1

Brouser: Internet Explorer 9

I had been using IE-9 for some time and fending off upgrading because there was a problem with getting the Tab to behave, but of late a few sites have been warning that unless I upgrade, some functionality would be missing at their sites.

Today, I installed IE-11 and it seemingly kept the former
TAB settings, but it did not work the same way. I tried to adjust the TAB settings to my liking, but was not successful. It seems to have a mind of its own (and yes, I did try closing and restarting the browser, IE, after changing a setting. I also finally noticed that for some settings, IE-11 requires a complete re-boot of the computer. I tried re-booting but no luck.)

I wish to duplicate what I was able to do in the older browser which was:

1. Open the home page and connect to the internet.
2. Open a new tab and go to "That Home Site Forums".
3. Then select a forum by opening it in a new window - this fails. I have to open a forum in the same tab and then use the back button to return to the "Home Site Forums".

Can you help?

My IE11 has tabs that work, but it was on the new computer, not an upgrade. No advice where/how to change them. By chance, would Chrome or Mozilla be an option?
PS: I chose Mozilla in order to get ADBLOCK, which helps here on GW. (Adblock was not yet compatible for IE11.)

I honestly have not used IE in so long I am not familiar with it's settings and I am not home now so I can't get to my computer to see.
I use Firefox on my desktop computer and it works great for me.
If you have Firefox try it out, you may need to update it. Any time you want to open something in a new tab you can right click on it and choose open in new tab. You can also set up the sites that you go to regularly on the bookmarks toolbar and then you have a one click solution to get to any of them.
To put sites on the bookmarks toolbar just grab the url address bar of the site and drag the url down onto the bookmarks toolbar and it will create a new spot for it.
If your Firefox is not showing the bookmarks toolbar right click way up at the top of the browser and it should open up the options and make sure there's a check mark in front of bookmarks toolbar option.

I wish I could help you with IE but I am in the RV down by the river. Lol

Thanks Raven. I just saw your post today, but was checking out the Amazon apps last night along with reviews and # of downloads after doing a search on "free apps". I'm still on the fence with this Nextbook. What I like is the 8" portable size and it's easy to use. What I don't like is not being able to get a wifi connection anywhere I've been so far (I live in a very populated area). Two (inside) places I tried to get wifi had secured internet in which the people didn't know their password. I couldn't even pick it up at 2 busy shopping center parking lots. Wasn't too happy about that as I don't expect to have to hunt down a Mickey D's or Starbucks to get wifi. The reviews on HSN haven't been too favorable on this tab as buyers can't get Netflix or the Android market; neither of which bothers me any. Reviews aren't shown on HSN any longer since the unit is sold out. The battery life, especially browsing, isn't good and that's something that's important to me. So, I'll be testing it out for a few more weeks. I really want it to work for me since I do like most things about this tablet. I was tempted to get an IPad, but prefer the 7-8" smaller tabs, and I can do without the monthly data plan along with the ridiculous price tag.

I would be curious about how many bytes ccleaner removed, if you remember. Ccleaner mostly just removes temporary files that your browser has saved into folders from every webpage you load ... and cookies too. Nearly all webpages and their graphics & scripts are saved 8 duplicated into cache folders. They are saved so your internet connection doesnt have to download the same pages over & over as you visit those sites again unless changes are made on the page. Then they save the changed pages into different cache folders.. adds up to a whole lot of pages for the browser to keep track of over time. Often the database files & folders/files in the cache ..get mixed & screwed up. One thing I might first try, after running a full virus/spyware scan, would be to download the current version of firefox & once that is on the computer, uninstall firefox. Can't figure out why my Firefox Colorful Tabs don't display

Biwako - I went to options and changed it to default (I had had it set for colors to correlate with domain - and it used to work like that - but I thought I'll try anything). Again - it worked at first - and then the color goes away (it's odd - it's not just when I close a tab or open a new one that it's white - the same tab that was blue before - now is white - no colors now at all). I cannot imagine what add-on might conflict. It's a daunting task to figure out which one. I've been so wild about the FF add-ons - that I have a ton of them. I don't believe any of them were new (oh - except for extensions to try and capture hulu streaming videos). I'll try the safemode and see if colorful tabs works there. If it does, I'm willing to try eliminating those last couple of video capture extensions. If that doesn't work - I'm in for a big, long process of elimination. I don't have any color - or the other extensions that were identified as being incompatible with Colorful Tabs. But something else has gone awry - my all-in-one-sidebar doesn't work consistently either. I guess something I added or updated is causing a problem. I'll report back if I figure it out. Thanks. Thanks for the reply. FireFox could be an option for me. I do not have a copy in my computer (or on CD), but that can be remedied. I am using both Mozilla's "Thunderbird" and ATT/Yahoo! for email.

I am mystified as to why IE-11 can not do what IE-9 did. Maybe its another case of screwing up a good feature that worked in an earlier version.

You can also open a new tab in Firefox and Chrome by pressing your control key when you click on a link. A new window will open when you press your shift key when you click on a link.

Thanks for you time and consideration.

I reverted back to IE-9 and all is well - the TABs work fine. I am still mystified as to why I loose some capability whenever I try to upgrade to a later version of Internet Explorer.
