Speaking of noisy restaurants~~how about

Hotels?? I am amazed at people letting doors slam shut, talk overly loud in the hallways, usually late at night. We were at one place that a gal about 4 rooms down from us stood in the hall and had such a loud convo on the phone forever, we could hear every word. DH stuck his head out the door and glared, LOL of course that did not work.

I have also been next to people that I can hear most of their conversations through the walls they are so loud! AWW do not get me started with the folks that smoke in their non smoking room, on the non smoking floor. When we mentioned it to the desk the next day, they said 'Oh you should have let us know we would have moved you'. I had a fit move me~~~why do I have move DAM!

Once we were next to a video photographer for a wedding a the hotel. He was rewatching what he had videoed that day~~~GAWD we could hear word for word their wedding vows, very late at night. DH jumped out of bed and pounded on the wall several times. LOL never heard another peep ;)

We don't usually have a problem with rude people unless we stay someplace where we don't have much selection and just have to take whatever hotel is available. Usually, if we're staying someplace like that, I'm so tired I could sleep through just about anything.

Yep, love the ones that go out into the hall for their phone conversations so they don't bother their room mates.
HEY, what's with that? The doors are not sound proof!

If you dont want to move altogether,why not ask the complex to transfer you to another apartment in the complex as soon as one becomes available? That's what we did,we had to wait a few months and go month to month,but when one opened up they moved us.You shouldnt have to pay another deposit because it should just transfer with your lease since you arent leaving the complex. The only thing we ended up paying was for our blinds that our cat messed up. That way you are still in the same great area and all,but dont have them above you.You could request a upper level to be sure the problem doesnt present itself again. 4 year olds can be extremely bad with the running and jumping and noise.My sister and her son had to request a ground level because so many people complained about the noise he made.The child could not merely walk,but had to stomp at all times. You may also have thin walls which means it is not entirely their fault.Alot of apartments must have this problem,hence the noisy neighboors posts.

Your best bet is to speak to the landlord (again). If they're noisy past the time the municipality has said they're allowed to be, you are right to complain, but if it's a matter of your needing extra sleep in the daytime, for instance, unless they're REALLY, REALLY, loud, you won't get much help at all. People like that don't know courtesy when it hits them in the head and things like telling you when they're partying (or appreciating cookie baking) go way over their heads. Accept that they live in a very different 'world' from you and after you've done all you can (officially) to fix things, you may end up giving whatever notice your bldg needs, and moving if things don't improve. You sound like a 'genteel' person from a different (better?) class of apt. dwellers, but in today's world, you're few and far between.

"It states that the landlords will not settle disputes between tenants." They CAN do that, but in most states landlords ARE responsible for ensuring that their tenants obey city and state regulations. Such as city ordinances against excessive noise. Get a copy of your city noise ordinances and the state's landlord-tenand laws and see what the obligations of a landlord are. I'd just call the cops and report a possible domestic disturbance. I'd also get a tape recorder and tape what it sounds like in your apartment while this is going on.

Jacuzzi brand Pro3 Cleaning System - how works? noisy? frequency?

I was at a Jacuzzi brand dealer yesterday asking about their whirlpool tubs and the lady I spoke with wanted to alert me that she had received multiple complaints from customers about the Pro3 cleaning system in that it apparently cycles on automatically to clean the tub and is rather noisy when it runs. The person I was speaking with didn't have any further details regarding how frequently the automatic cycle runs, for how long it runs and noise levels. I found a link to info on the Pro3 cleaning system on the Jacuzzi site but it is very vague, gives you no insight into how it works. I'm seriously considering a Jacuzzi brand whirlpool and want to understand how Pro3 works before jumping into this. Any Jacuzzi brand owners out there with Pro3 cleaning systems that can comment on this?

Yes, YL48, people do seem to be more self-centered and perhaps rude these days. Maybe it's how it's been all along?

I pay hotels for reasonable cleanliness, sleep and a reasonable shower in the morning. If it's not how it should be, I telephone the front desk. If the problem can't be corrected, I leave. If you choose to not speak up, you're choosing to accept whatever condition you don't want.

This is coming from someone - me- who almost NEVER says a peep in a restaurant....short of receiving something like chicken that's raw inside. If I don't like the food or the experience, I pay my bill, leave a normal tip (so long as the server tried to do their job) and then don't go back.

The only part that bothers me, is slamming doors (startles me awake) and people running down the hall. Voices and stuff don't bother me, unless they are fighting or excess partying.

When we stay in a "family" hotel (think Florida, Disney type resort) you know that noise and some activity is part of the package.

Oh, another thing, which we noticed in Vegas. All day and night, hundreds of dirty room service trays in the hallways. I understand why they are there and I am sure they are collected regularly, but I kept expecting to see rats.

One of my pet peeves as well......the slamming of doors and talking in hallways....do these people not notice it when others are doing it? Are they not annoyed by it as well? I am so conscious of both and even used to tell my kids no talking or whispers only in the hallway, especially if it was early in the morning or late at night.

Maybe hotels should put signs in each room..."for the comfort of all our guests, please refrain from allowing your door to slam shut and keep voices down in the corridors."

Yes, people are definitely more rude and self-centered these days.

We stayed at a hotel in San Antonio with our 2 yr old and 7 yr old a while back.
Our room was next to the laundry room.

We had to put up with Spanish music being played loudly most of the night, we called the desk and complained. Nothing was done.
The next morning at 5:30 am some idiot was in the laundry room WHISTLING. Loudly. DH was livid.

He went to the laundry room and told the jackass to SHUT UP.
But by then the 2 y/old was up and going.

A few years ago we stopped at a well known motel chain and sure enough, right next door were late "checker inners"..They proceeded to party in their room and also outside their room until all hours (even after we had complained)...We had to be up early so decided to turn the tables, just a bit....Normally, we would have been quiet while showering and packing up but not this time...We had 2 teen aged girls who made sure the hair dryer was in good working order, (very close to their wall), did have the desk give them a wake up call and on leaving, we made sure the TV was turned on (just a little louder than usual)...Not sure if they got the message but made us feel a bit better......

I do not mind normal noise from 7am to 11pm, after that I do not think it is too much too ask for people to be a bit quiet, taking loud phone calls any time of day in the hall is really a nono to me. If we are staying somewhere several days, I pick a nicer hotel. If it is just for a night, I am not as picky.

Really it does not matter much if it is a pricey place or not, people are rude everywhere.

Pudgeder, in Tahoe we had a room next to the laudry room and we were like 'oh no'. It was one of the quietest rooms we had ever been in. I think they must have insulated it more. I made note of the room # for future stays.

I used to worry about being in a room next to dogs. Now I prefer it, esp if the dog owners are older, they are the most polite and quiet people and the dogs are so sweet.
