What plant have you suddenly gotten tired of?
Comments (51)I love this thread. :) Well, it's August, so right now I pretty much hate everything in the garden. It all looks ratty this time of year. One exception: the "fall garden" is in full glory right now! If you don't have a dedicated fall garden, it is something I highly recommend! When everything else is spent and starting to get crispy, fall bloomers are just getting started. Mine has Early Amethyst Beautyberry, Limelight Hydrangea, a few tall purple Zinnias, Mexican Bush Sage, Autumn Joy and Matrona Sedum, Homestead Purple Verbena, Karley Rose Pennisetum, Fothergilla Major Mt. Airy...and this year I tried some Blackie Sweet Potato vine around the edges. It is SO NICE to have something to look at right now that doesn't look like death eating a cracker! Anyway, to the original question: I have decided I have way too many daylilies (only 25 or so, but still too many for me). I am so sick of pulling out dead foilage, and it started this year before they had even bloomed. I'm going to reduce them by about half in the fall, keeping only my very favorites. I've also discovered they are a bad thing to have at the front of a border for the dead foilage reason, so several will have to be moved....See MoreWhats the warmest you have gotten so far?
Comments (55)Tropical zone, seems like last night was the coolest around here. Locally, don't see anything lower than about 42 F.. We did get some rain last night (at least 1/4 inch)--though I agree it's been unusually sunny, and dry for April--most of the state actually has a red flag warning due to low humidity and breezy conditions--didn't we just have a foot of rain this past March?! I have just about everything out save for some of the more tender tropicals (some Dracaenas, Chinese evergreens, diffenbachia, etc.) I can't believe how different it all is from last year--everything greening up fast--even have leaves on the Crape Myrtles and I don't think they greened up till June last year!! JimHardy, watch those bananas. I had no damage on my sikkimensis, Chinese or Japanese Basjoo but moved my dwarfs in as I did see a bit of discoloration from last night. Happy gardening!...See More* Have You Ever Gotten Your Credit Card Account Numbers Stolen? *
Comments (14)I had a bunch of credit cards opened in my name some years ago. I had rental property and had a Centruy 21 agent manage it for me. Apparently, since the mortgage statement went to that office, so did a bunch of those free offers for credit cards. The receptionist opened the accounts got the cards, and just kept paying the minimum payments on the cards. It went on for over a year and was only discovered when she went away on her honeymoon and my agent started opening the mail with my name on it--a bunch of Visa bills with over $20,000 total charges! This girl had charged her whole wedding and honeymoon in my name! The hardest part was cancelling the cards--when I called Visa they wouldn't believe I was me because the girl had given them _her_ mother's maiden name, information of course that I could not supply! It was pretty stupid, really, she thought she would never be caught, said she every intention of paying off the cards eventually. Stupid criminal. Stupid credit card companies. We all paid for that one. And yes, I do check my credit report now!...See Morehave you gotten anything from your wish list lately?
Comments (16)I don't need it....nothing....don't need anything more.... BUT....today I went to the $ store because I needed several gift bags....and while I was there...I just had to walk around...and bought 3 glass pinch bowls...I was getting along just fine with custard cups...but... AND I got a new dishwasher last week...but that was because my 22 year old trusty Maytag died. I know better then to buy one of the newer Maytags (the ex CEO was a very good friend and next door neighbor and when he made all those trips to China and Japan, I figured it out!).. Anyhow I got a Jenn Aire....I know they are in the business of down draft vent systems....but it's a hotsy totsy model, likely last years but I made the dealer an offer...prepared to up it....and he said OK. Surprise! But its' not "fun" in the way that a new stock pot would be...I still am trying to figure out the best way to load the thing! Also got 2 new YeehaH stoves for the church...I bucked the people who said why do we need to spend that for stoves.....and I splained why!! Because I cook on them and you don't! I think I need new potholders.....mine are beyond awful...and people give me oven mits and I feel clumsy using them, so I save them for the grill. I Have a fairly nice assortment of Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's day potholders...but I need some simple every day ones that don't have burned corners and the stuffing hanging out.
