Laptop Issue

Why has my screen taskbar turned pink and why are there blue and red stripes down the whole screen? And the print has turned brown. It all really hurts my eyes.

jean001- I understand what you're relaying about your conversation. However, if it's backwards compatible to XP, it means that it works with Vista. Now if he is telling you that he can either have it set to handle Vista connections, or XP and Win7 connections, but not all of them at the same time, maybe that's so based on some odd configuration he has set up. I have my own $60 wireless router running four computers (and a Roku box and a printer): one computer is XP, two are Vista, and one is Win 7. They all worked immediately after I put in the keys for my security settings, and I did nothing to configure any of them specifically. I've never had a problem connecting. And I have friends who visit and tap into my system using both PCs and Macs and they have no problems either. If you don't want to question your guru any further, that's your call, but I'm still not buying his story.

have you tried just taking the battery off of it and leave it plugged in only? I do that often with our laptops. why don't you tell us the model of the laptop and your operating system and maybe someone can find some info related to it.

She brought it over and the LCD was completely undamaged. In the corner, it was slightly separated from the frame. The frame was damaged a bit, bent so that the corner of the LCD would not "snap" into place. It would stay in place if we held it with our fingers, but wouldn't be secure. There's also a dent in the base by the keyboard (same corner when it's closed), but that's cosmetic. I turned it off, pried the corner of the frame a bit and snapped the LCD back into place. We both heard it snap in and I could feel it make the connection. To be on the safe side, we used some clear packing tape. You can certainly see the tape, and if you look from certain angles, you can see that it's not quite square, but all in all, it's in pretty good shape. When she called, I thought the repairs would be a couple of hundred dollars if I did them myself, so I'm VERY relieved that it was so easy to fix. And I'm also relieved that my daughter, a senior in high school, didn't insist that we needed to replace the entire case since it no longer looked new.

From what you've described, my reactions are: The program you're using (Secunia) is unnecessary. I wouldn't spend another second using it or opening it. Programs update themselves. Driver Restorer sounds like a come on, I'd delete it and pay no further attention to it. If a driver needs updating, the periodic update sessions from MS will handle it. If your PC is working adequately with its hardware, the topic of drivers can be ignored. Java has nothing to do with the display's general performance. Maybe some part of the screen or what controls it is failing? Is your PC going into some kind of a sleep cycle, does the screen brighten if you touch a key? Maybe you should take the PC to a repair shop or replace it if it's old?

Deeby, Hubby had that with his flat-screen LG monitor. It was 6 months old, and thankfully it was under warranty. They sent him a new one.

Laptop screens are back lit to improve screen visibility. However, sometimes the back light does not work, making the screen extremely difficult to read. The problem might be as simple as one of the latches being stuck in the closed position. For instance, if the laptop is opened and the switch is stuck in the closed position, the computer is usually on, but the back light remains off. First, find the back light switch. These switches are usually very tiny and located near the laptop hinges. Try to open and close the laptop a few times, if this does not work, a gentle tap or using a small pin to try to gently un-stick the latch usually does the trick.

Here's a link that tells where the backlight switch is on a Gateway, if you feel you're not able to follow the directions (it takes nerves but I've done it lol) then take it to a person who does know. More than likely the switch is the cause of your problem. If you tell them what it is, you'll save $. Otherwise they'll tell you what it is (and more).
