Just back from a few days in the hospital

Yep I had emergency surgery Wednesday afternoon. I had a perforated ulcer/pouch (from gastric bypass) I thought I was having a heart attack at first, but it turned out to be the pouch busting. So if I seem a little grumpy just tell me & I will check myself. I am having to give up cokes and smokes at the same time. Only saving grace is I get to keep my e-cigarette. Hopefully that will keep me from losing my mind. I need prayers please not just for the quitting smoking, but for being on a soft bland diet for a week until I go back and see my surgeon. So please pray for me. I need rest like you wouldn't believe. I have slept 1 hour since coming out of my surgery.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I pray that you are able to conquer the cravings in all areas. And that you are able to get lots of rest and sleep that you need so desperately.

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back and check in. I was out of town for work and just got home. Thanks so much everyone for the compliments. It makes me feel good, I must admit. I always seem to see what needs to be done, and sometimes forget to look at what it is! I will try to answer everyone's questions. Hope I don't miss any. In no particular order... The lilies in the "big" picture are almost all daylilies. The lilies in the close-up pictures I am not sure. Just some bulbs I picked up, probably at a big box store or the local garden center? Sorry I don't have their names. The rose pictured in the 4th picture is Morden Belle. There are actually 3 bushes planted in that bed. I hope that is the rose you meant? Yes, I do have the courtyard of roses and yes they are blooming. However, many of the roses on the fence were taken down this year due to RRD. I have planted bittersweet in their place. Won't be the beautiful flowers, but will provide privacy that won't get RRD. As you can see from the picture below, the fence is now pretty bare looking on the side. I have decided that I will try to keep the roses on the fence across the end and around the corner. The need for privacy there is not so great, as the Wine and Roses weigela in the island bed does screen most of the garden from that end. Again, thank you everyone! Everything looks great! The cactus really seem to shine in late spring/early summer and once they are finished blooming you have huge tropicals that take over! The castors are going to be ridiculous by the end of this season! If you get a late frost, I would expect them to reach at LEAST 14' Thanks for sharing! -Alex

Good morning, y'all, . Thank you for the kind words, Mike. Laura, I will definitely hit you if I ever head towards Annapolis :). And thanks to all of you for the well wishes for Dave. It means more than you know. . He's better, I think. He's starting to be hungry again, and he now eats 3 meals a day. Granted, they are much smaller meals than what he used to have, and they are almost fat free, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We haven't had any setbacks since he left the hospital, so I must be doing something right in what I feed him. We are scheduled to go see some big wig at Hopkins that is specializing n Pancreatitis, so we'll see what he tells us. . The trees have been spending their days outside (except yesterday since temps were in the friggin 40's), but I've chickened out on the nights when I saw it go below 50 this week, so I brought them back in for the nights. As soon as it's steadily staying above 55, I'll just leave them out 24/7. I can't wait for that, either. I am so sick of that rain and constant drizzle and cold. I need some sunshine at least as much as my trees do. . I've also just finished giving them their first feed since last October when I brought them in for the winter, and their very first FP feed, since we decided to stop giving them the organic Grow More fertilizer I gave them last year. I've fumbled a little with the strenght to give them, and figured out 1/4 Tbsp for 1/2 gallon, as described in THIS POST I intend to use the "mikerno-approved method", and feed them every day about 10 minutes after their daily watering. I was uncertain of my FP per gallon proportions, so I decided to start low at 1/4 Tbsp / 1/2 gallon (1/2 gallon being the volume of my "fertilitzer pitcher"). . I haven't seen any scales appear back, but that doesn't mean squat, I still have to redo the Neem oil next week (Tuesday will be a week since my last application), and then the week after that, again. . I'm sorry I'm not contributing more to these boards, these days. It's just that by the time I'm done with all I have to do, I'm so drained and bone deep exhausted that I can't summon the energy to actually "write" anything. I do read your posts and replies, though, it's relaxing and allows me to think of something else, no matter how briefly. . I hope y'all have a great week end. God bless, . Atheen

That must have been really frightening, I'm glad a surgical fix was available and you're home again so quickly. Wishing you healthier and happier days soon, a speedy quick recovery...

Oh Laura! How awful and scary .I know how difficult it will be to give up coke and cigarettes. I know you had some dental concerns and I am wondering if that might impact this recovery. Just breathe deep and tell yourself you can do it.

Sending you a cyberhug, and lots of prayers. I know how hard it is to give up the smokes...but you will be so glad you did (I'm in my tenth year of being smoke-free). Take care of yourself and get lots of rest. And take lots of deep breaths to help with the nicotine urges. Hugs!

I'm not sure what a gastric bypass is, but I know that anything with your intestines is scary.

Thank you all for the prayers and good wishes. I will be bringing my laptop in the house most of the time now, since the garage was where my office was...I think I will spend the next few days disassembling the whole office, since that is where I smoked. I look at it this way, instead of spending money on a new desk and chair I will see about a new vanity style type desk for our bedroom.

I'm not a believer in prayer but I offer my best wishes for a speedy return to good health and success with quitting smoking. The first is up to your doctor, the second is up to you but the consequence of this, something you can accomplish on your own, is huge. Stick to it, you're worth it!

Goodness! I'm glad you got to the hospital in time to get this taken care of. Please rest up, do everything the doctor says to do, and don't do any of the things the doctor says not to do. Take care of yourself and be well soon!

Sorry to hear about your ordeal! I think dis-assembling your garage office is a VERY good idea since you've associated it with smoking! My DH smoked for 40 years, and he now uses an E-Cig. He rarely has a real cigarette anymore, and I'm so thrilled! Good luck, and heal quickly. Prayer for your continued success.

OUCH! Glad you survived! Now it's up to you. Remember Snidely's words about doing your part in recovery: You're worth it! (I'm talking about YOU -- not your makeup or clothes or shoes or gee-gaws. Those are not why your DH and kids love YOU.)

Laura smoking just doesn't make any sense...as hard headed as I am and as long as I smoked, I finally managed to do it so I know you can...Lung cancer got me too...I was one of those that said to myself...I'll be one of the lucky ones..cause I don't smoke that much and I'll quit long before I get lung cancer ...I did quit long before I got it but it got me any way and you better quit because even if cancer doesn't get you copd and emphysema and all kinds of other ugly things will get you ..quit dam mit..Good luck and get well soon..sending prayers

Laura, I wondered why you had been so quiet lately.

Dismantling your "office" is a good idea but remember you just had surgery. Let your family do that for you.

I would come see you but I have a kidney stone that will not pass. The pain pills just make me sleep all the time.
