Daughter With Cancer Update...

Our daughter, Stacey, has had a setback with her cancer ordeal. She has had a spot on her surgery side that they have been watching. They decided it was an infection and put her on meds. The meds did not clear it up so they put her back in the hospital to have her expander taken out. Once they got in the decision was made to remove both expanders. I can't begin to tell you how strong our daughter has been through all of this. All she wants is to be able to start school on time. Her classroom is all ready to go. She loves her job.

Sorry to hear about her setback. Hoping and praying things improve for her allowing her to start the school year on time.

Expanders - is this something preliminary to future reconstruction then?

She's going to be beautiful and healthy no matter what type, if any, cosmetic reconstruction she has done IMO ;) I'm sorry for the setback, hope the infection clears immediately, and she's returned to full health soon. Such a process, my heart goes out to her and I hope she makes her goal of beginning the school year on time.

Great news about Terri. I have learned to love pink as well as not complaining about having another birthday....at least I am here to have another birthday! Saturday I did my 3rd Relay for Life walk.....with my daughter and granddaughter with me. The first lap is for survivors and the second lap is for survivors and their care givers. Lots of sniffling going on for those 2 laps. If Terri has Relays in her area encourage her to go....each year I attend is a greatful year. I bared my head as soon as I felt comfortable doing so....when I flung the wig I never looked back to see where it landed! Because of my job I was forced to "cover my head" longer than I would have liked to....but thats OK cause it's all back and now I complain about how often I have to get a hair cut. I will keep Terri in my prayers as it takes a good while for life to get back to normal.

Suzieque...thank you so much. I just heard that the hospital may send her home tomorrow, they have her on a pump for pain and i am not sure if that will continue at home, but her dh said she wants to go home. Marie... I hope your DD and DH continue to improve. Thanks for the note, you have been so kind to me in the past. and helped me with other things. Ellie.... aw, thank you! I often feel, and say, that I wish I could be as articulate as some of you on here. I appreciate your kind words. I imagine as we all age, we will be in these situations more often than not. And, of course, one of these days...... no one can say when..... we will each be the one whose hand is being held. All I know is that we are not promised a tomorrow....so live today as if it is your last. I have not done that by any means, ever, in fact I am one of the worst for worrying about things I cannot change, but sometimes things happen to put life in perspective for you. This is a wonderful place, this KT, to come and share and ask for advice, and for prayer and good thoughts. And also to pass on encouragement to our 'cyber' friends as they need it. Bless you all!

I know my posting doesn't matter to anyone, and that's ok. Just wanted to send you a hug and let you know, along with a lot of others, how sorry I am. I could have almost written your posting several years ago. Everything you wrote pretty much fit my DH. He was only 57 when we lost him. He was a workaholic and always put off going to the Dr., etc. When he was finally forced to go, it was too late. He did go through the Radiation, meds, etc., for almost 2 years before he left us. Please, everyone....please....get your DH, brothers, sons, male friends, etc., to have this Medical checkup. It is not just an old man's disease, like some seem to think, either. It is a curable type of cancer if caught early. Saying prayers for Jasdip and family for comfort and coping....and all who have gone through the beating that Cancer does to us. A couple of Widow/Widower sites help me a lot. They are out there, if you need them. They helped me to accept that it doesn't get better...but does get easier with time. Hugs.

She's been on my prayer list since you first told us about her and Kelly also. I pray that she soon has total relief from this last thing that's happening. Thanks for letting us know.

Oh, poor thing! And so brave and strong. It's rough going for parents of a "child" with a serious illness. So glad she's getting good care. When does school start? If nothing else, a sub can start the year and she can come in later if she needs some extra time to rest. Thanks for letting us know how it's going.

Morz8, the expanders are to stretch the skin gradually for the implants to go in. She starts school in 2 weeks. Her husband went in and helped her get her classroom ready. He has been a jewel during all of this.

Gadgets, thank you so much for thinking of Kelly, too. She has been having problems with a hip area and Is doing radiation. She is a real trooper, too. The two gals have been so good for each other. Kelly is a school bus driving in Indianapolis. These are two amazing women!!!
