Anyone know about Coxsackie virus?

My daughter just turned 26, hurray for her. She can't find a real job suited to her college degree in Textiles, so she's been baby sitting. She noticed one of her charges had a swollen lip, parents thought it was not important. Several days ago she had sores in her own mouth, a fever and extreme fatigue. She went to our family doc, who diagnosed her with Coxsackie virus.No treatment or cure, just let it run its course. ' Being on anti-rejection meds myself due to my kidney transplant and I've got thyroid removal surgery next week, I'm more than a little concerned. We don't share a bed or linens or anything, but we live in the same house. Have you or someone close had this virus? I'll be seeing the same doc tomorrow for surgical approval, so I'll certainly ask him questions.

My 28 year old son had it earlier this year. He first thought it was a canker sore, but then quickly these canker looking things began to multiply in his mouth. He went to urgent care and was diagnosed with Coxsackie. No treatment other than wait it out and stay away from acidic and spicy foods. It was very painful to eat or drink. It lasted for about 2 1/2 weeks. The print out sheet he was given at urgent care said it is very contagious. I was really careful around him as I have a compromised immune system, I sanitzed what he came in contact with and never got it. DH didn't either. My son has no idea how he got it.

My son and 2 grandsons just had this! They had foot, hand and mouth disease, a strain of the coxsackie disease. My youngest grandson ended up hospitalized with it due to dehydration. This strain is typically suffered during childhood. The dr was surprised that 34 yo son had not been exposed before. Typically, you get a fever, and an itchy rash on hands, feet and in your mouth. All 3 are now losing their toe nails from this. They were pretty sick for about a week. Dd is pregnant and and since she was around her brother's family, her OB checked her and it showed in a blood test that she had been exposed recently. The OB checked with an infectious disease specialist and he said it won't be a problem with the baby because she is far enough along. ( It would be different if she had delivered with it.) I am glad you are checking in with your dr. He should be able to answer all your questions and good luck and Godspeed!

I doubt it too with commercial mulch and their composted temperatures. I am concerned that another vector for this disease might be aphids as they mimic the mites in terms of their sucking parts of the sap. Currently from what I understand, there is not enough research money or someone setting up a scientific study to determine if aphids are another vector of this disease.

I am growing all 3 new Viru Tea Roses -- Faith Whittlesey, Garnet Crest and Krishna's Peach -- in Jacksonville, Florida. They are all extremely floriferous on compact plants that retain their foliage without any chemical spraying. In three or four years, Faith Whittlesey gets taller than the others -- which is still not too big, about 4 feet tall -- and begins to produce very large white blossoms on longer stems. I've had as many as 50 so far on a plant at one time. Like all Teas, they take a while to get started and then take off. Roses Unlimited handles them exclusively. RU also has a huge selection of Teas about 100 varieties -- see their list in the Sep/Oct American Rose. Vintage Gardens also carries a lot of Teas, but not the new Viru Teas.

Googling g.impclksrv.com doesn't return much. Similarweb.com seems to indicate that one of the sites that refers/referred traffic to it is Amazon. Traceroute claims it to be located in(near?) Dallas, Texas on a server referred to as "li106-34.members.linode.com" with a current IP of 72.14.191.34. "linode.com" itself seems to be a legitimate cloud host but "li106-34.members.linode.com" has a bad WOT rating. g.impclksrv.com is running Apache web server (version 2.2.15) on a machine running CentOS. Useless info? Probably, except maybe to show that it is indeed a real machine, all booted up and... ? On Amazon, can a private merchant include HTML in their item's description? A video? If so, maybe someone included content hosted on g.impclksrv.com and it's no longer accessible? Very much a wild guess. That bad WOT probably concerns me most.

Wallace, yellow leaves are not a viral indicator. They actually point to lack of (or excessive) moisture, or a nutrient deficiency like magnesium or nitrogen. Yellow splotches following the veins are specific of the Tomato and Dahlia Mosaic Viruses, and should be eliminated whenever you see them. Virus is a tricky thing to diagnose, like mites/thrips and soil deficiencies. UNLIKE the others, virus cannot be "outgrown," and will stay in the tubers/plant sap regardless of if you see the signs throughout the season. Think of virused dahlias as immune-compromised, like HIV-positive humans. They can walk and run around fine until a secondary sickness comes around, like someone else's sniffles. That can create pneumonia, possibly causing full-blown AIDS and death. No one would dare suggest that we should chance the spread of HIV because infected folks look healthy before flair-ups. When you keep clearly virused plants and tubers, you are increasing the chance that it will be spread in your own and (if shared) other's gardens. A heavy virus load (more then one type of virus in one plant) wipe out plants pretty quickly. Some varieties are thought to be more resistant to virus, but can still be carriers when infected. Other varieties seem to go downhill very quickly when infected, with no good blooms at all. There are many growers that trade/sell tubers with virus, only weaning out the really sick virused plants and keeping the ones that the virus sign goes away after fertilizing heavily. It is only a matter of time before new growers are staring at virus sign in their own garden and asking "Why should I toss it when the blooms are fine?" It's your garden to do as you like. I can only set the standard in my garden and what I sell. I've chosen to take no prisoners, and keep my stock as clean as I can. I hope the informed growers that read this eventually chose the same path.

Two of my friends' children had this recently. For one, the dad also got it, but neither mom got it from child (or the other daddy). I'm sorry to hear your daughter got it, and I hope she's feeling better soon.

It often goes through day care centres, day camps, that sort of thing here. It didn't seem to be around when DD was small (she is 14), but I have heard about it more in the last few years.

I usually hear it called Hand Foot and Mouth disease as well. Also Fifths disease is another common one (caused by a virus).

If she will be babysitting, she might want to bone up on recognizing things like early chicken pox, measles, rubella, thrush, and so on.
