I'd bet that bread-makers and waffle makers would also be among the top 10 appliances being sold as 'practically new' on eBay/etc.! People love the first few batches of the bread mixes, the heavenly aroma, but then the "no carbs" craze hit!

Someone was saying on another thread.....they liked juiced spinach. If you try it...please post what you think of it. I'm just curious....:0)

Spinach is something I put in my juice a lot, along with carrots, celery, a little beet, a peeled wedge of lemon, and a chunk of ginger. Other greens I might use are romaine lettuce, kale, or cabbage (green or red). Occasionally broccoli.

Sometimes I add some apple or grapes. A couple of chunks of pineapple core are a good addition too. I don't think I'd like spinach juice (or any other green) by itself though.

Knowing how spinach shrinks dramatically when cooked, I use quite a bit at a time, since my goal is to get the nutrients from more vegetables than I would normally eat in cooked form.

Pammyfay, I'll bet you're right. I used my waffle maker a lot when my kids were growing up, but almost never now. Oh, and my panini maker seemed like such a good idea a couple of years ago . . . LOL

I have a pasta roller I'll sell ya....

Ha! That's another one I used a lot when my kids were growing up. It was an attachment to my KitchenAid mixer. Now I'm not sure where it is.

Maybe it would make creamy, delicious healthy milkshakes?

The juicer, OldFixer? Nah, juicers don't work that way. But a blender might do the job. "Healthy milkshake" ventures into oxymoron territory. ;-)

LOL Alisande. Put me into the "selling their juicer" category. I sold ours that we bought on Kijiji to our neighbour.

We liked the taste of the juices and I used the pulp in meatloaves, etc and my voracious composting worms got a healthy dose of it as well.

We would juice pineapple, apples, kale, spinach, celery, ginger, lemon, carrots, romaine.

Unless I could get the veggies on the discount rack, it was pretty expensive to make juice every day. We do eat veggies. But I wish I had it when I had some asparagus in the frig that froze and some limp, woody carrots :(

Jasdip, I don't think I'd juice limp, woody carrots. In fact, I can't think of one thing limp, woody carrots would be good for. LOL

I ran across the following in a juicer review on Amazon. Someone asked her what she does with the pulp. I'm a lentil lover, and this sounds very good to me:

We (family of four) use the pulp in one of our all-time favorite meals, which we call "whatever burgers" (they are essentially veggie burgers)... we're big lentil eaters, so we take the pulp, any leftover lentils from a day or two before (or if we are really craving whatever burgers, we'll make lentils especially- most kinds work well, and canned is also fine), a few handfuls of rolled oats to bind everything, a chopped yellow onion or two for flavor, sometimes some grated ginger, a sprinkling of salt, some chopped cilantro/coriander, a chopped green chile pepper, and some dry spices (usually Indian spices- garam masala, amchur)... mix it all together, add oats until it all comes together, and saute / very lightly pan-fry in olive oil (I usually just put enough olive oil down to coat the pan, and then again before flipping). These little burgers are so healthy, addictive, and have been a hit with everyone we've served them to! Plus- great way to get the fiber we miss by juicing. (We use a mix of veggie/fruit pulp- our standard juice is kale/greens+a small apple+half a lemon+a small chunk of ginger... sometimes carrots or celery make their way in there. No one minds finding the occasional apple peel in their whatever burgers- it's all part of the whatever!

Have you discovered a way to use your juicer to create an innovative cocktails? Just think of the added deliciousness if you knew one of your concoctions was also healthy.

Maire, I'm thinking that would take a lot of exciting experimentation. Ah, well . . . it's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.

We had a juicer that we got as a present and had only used two or three times. I don't remember the brand, but it was hard to use, and even harder to clean. It then sat unused in a cabinet for several years, next to the used-twice pasta maker, until a nephew asked for a juicer for Christmas, and specifically requested that it be a used one, rather than a brand-new one. -- Problem solved.

I hope you enjoy yours and find it less troublesome to use and clean.

Ours was so loud, the cats used to go racing to under the bed. I always made sure it was on a cookie sheet as well, in case of spillage, etc.

OH, always make sure there is a measuring cup or something that fits under the spout! Hubby forgot to do that and yep juice pouring out of the spout. LOL

Bob, I've had an Acme juicer for a long time. I find it simple to clean, mostly because it uses a paper filter. I put the pulp in the compost bucket. The Breville I chose has many positive reviews, most of which mention ease of cleaning. It doesn't take a filter, but based on their comments I'm not concerned.

A few years ago I bought a Jack LaLanne juicer for a family member, but snatched it back unopened when I read how hard it is to clean. Obviously, I should have read this before buying it!

Jasdip, I use a big measuring cup with the Acme, but the new one comes with its own tall cup. Oh, and thanks for the vote of confidence about cocktail recipe development! LOL
