| And , drum roll,..... It is a Stargazer lily!!! My fave flower!
For those that may not know the original story here is the link to the thread here.
Mystery plant
in short I found a bunch of bulbs in the soil of 2 Poinsettia plants I had bought, they died off and as I was trying to use the soil discovered mystery bulbs which eventually became mystery plants. Now the mystery of what it is is solved. However why the heck they were in the pot with the Poinsettias no idea!
It has a lot of flowers still yet to open this one opened early this morning. My husband ran in excitedly and woke me from a dead sleep to tell me I had to get up quick, of course I thought someone had died, but instead I got to see this beautiful sight. Pretty ironic that it happens to be my all time fave flower. I do love a happy surprise!
I will go post the pic on the name that plant forum too since they were trying to help. We had all guessed some sort of lily due to the buds. |

| And just so no one thinks that is in my house, NO it is out in the atrium and with all the flooding and torrential rains it is a mess on the floor in there which is why you see the ick. If it ever stops raining we will go in and give it a good cleaning and pick up the multitude of pine needles that now cover the floor. One more pic |

| LOL, I think it's funny/cute how you guys get all excited over the different kinds of Lillies. To me, they all look alike; I can't tell one from another, just that they are different colours. Heck, I just realized a couple of weeks ago why they are called "day" lillies! Duh. Glad you got your favourite one, anyway, RC. You deserve it, my dear. |

when I saw it was apparently in the lily family I had my fingers crossed it might be a stargazer and woo hoo it is. Now I can plant them in my garden and they will be much healthier than in the pots. I still have no idea why those bulbs were in the poinsettia plants. I love the smell of them and yes I have had that orange pollen dust get on me and it is a bear to get off. I was told once to clip those off as soon as it opens so you don't have that problem and that it will last longer, I don't know if that is true or not. |

| i have some in the yard but they're about 3 ft tall? lighter pink... can't remember where i got them! what i miss are the plain old day lillies...they just got too thick and with the poison ivy that invades, i can't work in the yard anymore, sigh...dh seems to be immune but when i ask him to surprise me, i ended up with a row of dafs that looked like soldiers! |

| Lucky you to have that Stargazer! If I cut lilies to bring in the house I will cut the anthers off to avoid the pollen problem. The best way to deal with pollen on fabric, and probably on skin, too, is to press a piece of cellophane tape STRAIGHT down onto the pollen and lift straight back up again. Enjoy your lovely lily! |

| Kat, we have been anxiously awaiting the blooms to open like an expectant parent LOL that is just how he was when he came running in to wake me!! He could well have been saying the baby was born! Hey at our age we are easily amused LOL I have many many more blooms yet to open and I have more baby plants still coming up! Do these prefer sun or shade for planting? the tape suggestion is a great idea! I would not have thought of that. I have fought with that pollen many times because I buy the flowers often. My cleaning lady hated them because of the pollen, one day she came in and she was covered with it, she had it from her face to the tips of her fingers. I said have you looked in a mirror yet? She was not happy with me. |

| Beautiful. I bought a pot of them and planted out front. Was excited to see them grow since they are such a beautiful flower and generally propagate nicely over time. Little did I know the rabbits like that plant as much as I did, for edible reasons, and devoured it - flower, leaves and most of the stem. We've since sprayed but I hope they come back next year, the flowers that is, in full bloom. Not sure that it will since the rabbit ate just about everything that would usually give nutrition to any future new growth. Damn rabbits. |
