Saving: (Money, The Planet, Etc) What Do You Do?

I get flattened cardboard boxes from a couple of nearby Dollar Stores (Dollar General & Family Dollar are the names of the ones here), on the days that their trucks come in & the merchandise is shelved.

If I don't pick them up, the boxes are thrown into the dumpster, so the managers are happy to let me tote them away.

I dunk or soak them in water to make them easier to tear, & mix them with eggshells, grass clippings, & other 'greens' (nitrogenous materials) in the compost.

They also make good weed barriers & bases for mulch paths.

For those uses, you just lay them down, dry not wet, & cover them with soil and/or mulch for your new flower beds, or just with mulch for pathways.

I use baking soda & vinegar for cleaning & for insect bites & witch hazel ($1 at Dollar Tree here) for rashes from poison ivy (only had it once before, don't wanna ever have it again!).

What techniques do you use in the house or garden to pinch those pennies & keep things out of the landfill?
