Patriotism, or poor taste?

I have recently seen a TV ad for a certain brand of vehicle that features George Washington driving a car to rout the redcoats. The tag line is "American got two things right--cars and freedom." That struck me as in very poor taste.

Then in Sunday's paper the "entertainment editor" ran a full page blah-blah about the vampire movie series, and suggested that the founding fathers were vampires, and had pictures doctored to give them fangs and a dribble of blood down the chin. I don't care if he was trying to be "cute" or "relevant" or just giving the movies a free advertisement, it was offensive to me. I wrote a letter to the editor which won't be published, since the paper is so badly written they can't get competent reporters/editors and have to settle for whoever will show up.

How do you feel about the icons of our freedom being used in this way?
