I have several of them. Love mine! I actually found one for $1.00 at a rummage sale a couple weeks ago... it was missing the wick, but I always have spares. I like the vanilla and fruity smells the best.. I buy my oils and wicks from Courtney's Candles and I often buy their brand.

I find most of the oils to be too strongly scented so in the lampe I mix half oil to half 91% rubbing alcohol (only use the 91%). Always make sure your wick has been in the oil and capped for at least 20 minutes before lighting and let burn 5 minutes before blowing out. If it goes out you must recap for 20 minutes before relighting or you will burn up your wick. I keep my spare wicks soaking in 91% alcohol in a small Tupperware container.. that way they are clean and ready to light if I need one.

The lampes not only scent your home but they actually kill the germs that cause odors... they were originally invented for use in hospitals. I'm sure you knew that already though.:)

My favorite oils right now are La-Tee-da 'Stay Awhile' and Lampe Avenue's 'Key Lime Creme' and 'Mandarin Orange Creme' (all are vanilla with fruit smells) and if you like the smell of Bayberry - La-Tee-Da's 'Christmas Cheer' is divine for the holidays.

So, on average, after blowing it out, about how long do you let it burn? I'm guessing not nearly as long as one would burn a candle.

I find that your wicks will last longer and not get as clogged if you let the lampe burn out completely each time. You only fill the lampe up 2/3 full and mine usually burn 6 to 8 hours.

I have 2 large lampes and 2 small ones. I use the smaller ones for smaller areas like the finished room in the basement. I don't prefer one size over another, I think even the small one would work for my upstairs.

There are small wicks for small lampes and large wicks for the large ones. Any brand should be interchangable, you do not need to buy Berger replacements.

Good luck with it. I bought my Mom one for Christmas and she has already burned up a couple wicks.. she doesn't quite get how they work. Hope I'm not a bad explainer! lol In the link are instructions from Courtney's.

I have 2 Lampes and I adore them. They are so fabulous for cleaning up the air, especially if you have pets. When we have an obnoxious litter box smell, a few minutes with the Lampe burning will eliminate it.

I had purchased knock off lampe oil from another site for a while but found that it clogged up my stones so I went back to the LB oil. But, its' expensive so I think I'm going to give Courtney's a try. That Key Lime Creme sounds awesome!

I have never used one but always wanted to try it. Are there any I can find at a low price? Are all the oils expensive?

Well shoot. Courtney's won't ship to California because the fragrance oils exceed California's permissible volatile organic compound levels :(

Joann, the mini's are on sale at Courtney's for $20.00, that includes your wick plus a 16 oz bottle of oil... so it's a good deal (unless you live in CA.. sorry Tally!).

The oils are all about the same price ($10. to $15.) which is why mixing them with 91% alcohol ($2. for a big bottle at Walmart) helps cut down the cost. I don't burn mine but maybe twice a week (and only 1 lampe at a time) so really it isn't any more expensive than burning good candles and the lampes really do get odors out of the air instead of just covering them up.

If you have a Hobby Lobby store near you they carry a knock off lamp, the stones, wicks, fuel scents, everything and their stone & wick will fit in a LB.

I have several real Lampe Berger have had them for many many years, they have been very popular in Louisiana for a long time. I use the original LB oils and I have used others. If you get a knock off oil and it is smoking heavily I would stop using it, is is not a quality product.

I have ordered from Courtney's and also a couple of sites that are based in Louisiana, don't remember the names now.

I have one and really like it. I need to buy some more oil for it or make my own.

I've been using the wax melts lately from Scentsy.

At first I was annoyed to find out that they wouldn't ship to California. Then I find that most of the Ebay sellers won't now either. So I did some research on why California has banned fragrance oils.

As much as I loved my Lampe, it seems I won't be able to buy oil for it any more once my stash is used up. I googled VOC emissions, and now I'm not so ticked anymore. Perhaps it's not such a bad thing that I can't use it any longer. I never thought about what I might be breathing in.

I'll just have to use my BBW concentrated home fragrance sprays and wax melts more! No candles - I gave up the soot factor several years ago for the same reasons.

Tally, when I made my own I just bought the 91% rubbing alcohol and added (maybe a tsp) of some fragrance oil I bought at walmart.

Yeah, Charlee I understand. However based on what I've read I think I'll pass.

I don't know whether or not it's the burning alcohol or the actual oils that create the volatile organic compounds that disperse through the air, and I really don't care to research it that thoroughly. I just think I'll pass on it. I've loved the Lampe, and have been a strong advocate for it in the past. But I never stopped to think about what it might be emitting.

Since California has banned it because it exceeds the allowance of acceptable VOC's, coupled with the research I just did online, I think I'll just find another way to kill the odors. I can do just as well opening the windows, airing out the house and adding home fragrance scents I can buy here - ones that don't exceed the VOC limits.

California can be a pain sometimes. Our gas prices are higher than anywhere else in the nation because of the VOC requirements on gas that is burned here.

Oh well. At my age, I'm not into taking the risk. The link below was an eye-opener. It's a very slow toxcity, so unlikely to be noticed for a while. Better to be safe than rue it later. I'll guess I'll just stick to the home fragrances I can buy here.

I love effusion lamps and always got the amazing Lampe Berger fragrances. I live in San Francisco, but Lampe Berger does not ship any more to California. There are some other brands such as La Tee Da, Alexandria's, Sophia's etc., but they seem like cheap imitations and smell weak/bad. Sophia's is the worst of the lot.

I love these lamps and have been using Lampe Berger oils/fragrances and feel lost without them! I have tried some independent ones on Ebay or Etsy but they are kinda hits or misses. Any other fragrance oil brands someone can recommend? Thanks
