Colonoscopy - I did it!
Comments (16)I'll ditto what OP said, it's not nearly as bad as I'd feared. So much depends on what you do leading up to the test. I'd read a few tips that were helpful: I'd read that some good foods to eat the day or two prior to starting the "cocktail" include: Scrambled egg whites, dry white toast, green tea, grilled chicken breast, plain baked potato, lemon Italian ice, apple or white grape juice, graham crackers, baked fish, rice, banana, plain bagel, coffee with sugar only, Lemon or lime Jell-O, Chicken noodle soup, crackers, Beef or chicken broth, ginger ale. Avoid fats, dairy products and high fiber foods. Use a straw to drink the "magic cocktail" and put it as far back in your mouth or throat as you can in order to avoid tasting it. I had to drink my 32 oz. Gatorade & Miralax mixture 8 oz every 10-15 minutes. Set the timer as the time goes by fast. Don't answer the phone :) Also, keep some vaseline with the tp as the cleaning out period can create a sore bottom. The people at the clinic are very aware it's a sensitive procedure and that modesty is an issue. At no time did I ever feel exposed or uncomfortable. The staff was terrific. I remember being asked to roll on my side and then don't recall anything until waking up 30-40 minutes later....See MoreColonoscopy Humor by Dave Barry
Comments (32)I can't recall what the stuff I had to take was called, but I was given what I think was a gallon container and some powder to mix with water. I drank half of it, then waited a couple of hours and drank the rest. After all the horrible stories I'd heard, the prep wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Propofol is the anesthetic I was given and the only thing I remember about that is the anesthesiologist asking me if I felt it when he gave it to me. I replied that I didn't feel it but that I could taste it and that it had a strong chemical taste. Then it was lights out. The next thing I recall is the sound of people moving furniture waking me up. I was very annoyed that they would be so rude and make all the noise when peole were trying to sleep. A few seconds later, I realized that what I thought was furniture being moved, was my gurney/bed thingy being rolled into the recovery area. I think it was the wheels rolling on the floor that I had heard. It wasn't furniture that was being moved; it was me! Love Dave Barry. I used to read his column every week in the local paper, but when we moved, the paper was no longer available to me and I kind of forgot about him....See MoreNearing End of Build Only a Few Days: What to expect?
Comments (9)I neglected to add that this builder warranties our home for 3 years. The home is beautiful and well built. But he has always asked for price points on the home before they were completed and he has continued working. We were over at the house yesterday. House has been cleaned up and all landscaping is completed. The painters have finished some major work but the house will still need some minor touchups through out from what we could see. An electrician was there finishing up his work and a glass guy was there finishing up the shower door and mirrors over sinks. Our builder stopped in while we were there and gave us his version of what we owed him for the build. He wanted it by the end of yesterday. Of course he wanted a lot more back from the residual than we had asked for. He didn't budge on even giving us credit for the granite. (nor do we know exactly how much he paid, but we know he made extra back on it for what it must have cost him). My husband caved and said he would pay it. He said they would be having a full crew back tomorrow to finish up cabinets and will install our towel and toilet hardware. I got an email this am that they were all over there now. When were over at the shop yesterday to pay the residual and saw all the cabinet shelves and doors that were to be installed and also the shoe mouldings ready to go. Other than having some paint touch ups and a couple of outlests that need to be complete we will be finished. My husband had contacted a lawyer several weeks ago and he got back and said they could send the builder a letter. But that if the builder walked out on the job there was nothing they could do! So we settled up last night in spite of having our work all completed and have to rely on the builder that he will do as he promised. It sucks that they have the upper hand. We paid too much money into the build and my husband said he just wants to pay and get it over with now. Builder's wife said that they will do a walkthru with us the end of next week 17th. We could start moving some things in to the garage and storage areas before that, however. The builder likes to do his own walk-thru without us first He will most likely do his on Monday or Tuesday. She surmised that everything will be done by next Friday... except to have another cleaning person in there that day. After we move in and are there living a couple of weeks and we find anything amiss then they schedule the plumber or electrician or whoever to come back and fix anything not working properly. I guess we just have to trust him....See MoreMother's Day expectations
Comments (58)Obviously my criticisms of Hallmark over the years found fertile ground in my kids as I don't always get flowers or even a card. However, over the years they have proven their love for me many times by actions for which I am always grateful. Two out of 3 will visit in the next 2 weeks so that will be lovely. There is a family function tomorrow to which most of the family will go but it's too far for me this year so I will celebrate by thinking good thoughts of previous Mom's Days, dress in a favorite outfit, let other non-family cater to me, and have an enjoyable day regardless of all the media hype. I'm old enough to not let other people's expectations, or even my own unrealistic expectations color how I feel. I have so much to be grateful for. Does anyone else remember dressing up for church, always wearing a hat, and a carnation corsage whose color signified whether one's DM was still alive. White if she had died and red or pink if still alive. And we'd usually go to a restaurant for lunch which was less common than today. None of that generation are here now. That day was very special when I still lived at home with my parents. After my marriage my late DH always made it special by giving me carte blanche at a garden centre and either eating out or doing all the cooking. It was one of the things I missed the most after he died, not just the buying of plants but the love that came with them. Hope all Mothers here have a wonderful day whether or not they have to DIY or someone does it for them....See Morerhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7
