I don't know what thigh pain might indicate, but I hope it's one of those things that greatly improves overnight.

I've stumbled twice, lately, with not feeling stable with my footing.

Embarrassing fall at grandson's baseball game and fell flat on my face, when I stepped up and lost my balance.Coaches came to my rescue.

Not fun when the realization hits in, but there's a time when we need help.

Turning 75 soon and realizing I now have limitations :o(

I'm more aware of throw rugs.

Living alone worries me if I fall.

We have to be careful!

We all need to be more careful as we get older. I've always felt so young, it never occurred to me that one fall could knock me for a loop like it did when I broke my hip in March. Now I have a cane, three walkers (two were Harry's but I use them) and a wheelchair. All of which I badly need even three months after my hip surgery.

I regret laughing at that "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up" ad when I was younger. It certainly isn't funny. I think people living alone especially, need to have a device like Life Alert and wear it all the time.

Georgysmom, I sure hope your leg is better this morning. If not, get on the phone and start cancelling! You need to take care of that leg.

Glenda, i carry a lightweight fold-up cane in my purse.

As we age, the recovery time is longer. But also we can't "catch" ourselves in time to prevent a fall.

Last spring I tripped over a garden hose. I was so worried about moving a really large flower pot, that I forgot the hose was there.

A friend of mine slipped on the ice and hurt her shoulder during the winter. It's six months and counting for her recovery.

Glenda, maybe it's time to look into one of those systems in case you fall at home. Being worried will add to you being nervous and that certainly can't help when you are living alone.

I think I'm losing my kinetic sense. I'm forever bashing an elbow on a doorframe or knocking my fingers on a countertop. It's like I no longer know exactly where I am in space. My peripheral vision is still good, but I will always have this difficulty with one eye 'normal' and the cataract-operated eye seeing an enlarged image.

I could get out the Wii Fit with the balance board and do some positioning exercises. That could help -- unless I stumble off it!

Georgysmom, sorry about your fall. You have a full week ahead so I hope you're feeling better today.

I'm a klutz and fall all of the time. Even as a teenager, I fell up escalators and tripped over cracks in pavement. Last week, I left a black trash can in a doorway to remind myself to take it back to the bathroom. I have medium wood floors and sure enough, the next time through that doorway, I tripped over the trash can...just didn't see it and didn't remember it was there.

Slept well last night but knee still bothering me. I think it's swollen behind the knee. It hurts less today to bend it then yesterday. I finished frosting 6 dozen mini chocolate cupcakes and 6 dozen coconut cupcakes. Scratching the idea of making gluten free cookies. I have to make a dozen deviled eggs yet and then put the leg up with ice packs. Glenda, I'm usually pretty agile but wasn't paying any attention to where I was walking and missed the curb. I am really unhappy with myself! The timing is not good. I guess I should just be grateful I didn't break a hip like Patti did.

I'm a klutz too, and sometimes do the same thing a second time if the opportunity presents itself. The problem is, the older you are the more potential the consequences. Glenda-do they offer yoga at your gym? Its a good class for seniors and can help with balance issues.

I am one too. I think my car doors are out to get me. At least 3 times I have hit the bottom of the corner on my shin when I am standing to close. The last time I think I had a scab on there for a month. Today I was going to put something in the car and I dropped part of it. When I bent down to pick it up I hit my head on the mirror. Now I have a cut on my forehead. I am thinking it will be black and blue by tomorrow. When I am starting to fall I never try to catch myself or fall on my hand I am scared of breaking my wrist or arm.

I know how you all feel. I broke my ankle mid-March and am not walking normally yet, and have pain and swelling all the time. So darn frustrating! I am overly careful now and find myself looking out a few steps to make sure I'm not going to trip on anything. I've become a nervous Nellie.

Glenda, please get that alert necklace thing ! It's not an old lady thing, it's a smart thing ! Or at least keep a cell phone in pocket or bra all the time no matter what ! (but the necklace is better for when you're in the shower)

I am and always have been a 'klutz'~~one of the reasons I started doing yoga 6 years ago was for balance and flexablity. It has helped me a lot, would help me more if I would add more classes~~I do it at my senior center, so the classes are geared toward my age group.

Gerogysmom, you need to rest your leg, maybe a dr. visit would help. I am always amazed at how much you do in a day~~I am a slug compared to you.

Good grief, I posted to Glenda but not to the poor lady who fell. My apologies and feel better soon ! (I'm kinda new here, I'm usually over in gardening).
How's this for embarrassing-I once thought I saw a baby tame rabbit on a slope in the back yard. I had just woken up. I went out across the pebbles (no grass) to try to catch it, and blam, fell on the pebbles and really cut up my knee and hands. I got up, hurting my cut hands on the pebbles even more, determined to get to the poor baby bunny. I fell AGAIN. Finally, I made it to the rabbit... It was a Kleenex, with parts of it pointed looking from a distance like ears. How's this for dumb and embarrassing: IT NEVER OCCURRED TO ME THAT THE NOISE OF MY FALLS WOULD SCARE A RABBIT AWAY. So all of you can feel better now, thanks to me ! LOL !
