Seeing all the little seedlings of tomatoes, Kabocha squash and tomatillos coming up as volunteers from my composted soil and worm farm casings. (I call it my accidental garden.)
And being able to use the farm fresh fruit from our local community supported agriculture. I made a great tasting mixed fruit cobbler this morning.

Seeing the look of joy on my dog's face as he runs around our yard.

Alice I have an issue with shoes. Small wide foot that is difficult to find comfortable shoes for. My closet is filled with shoes that I call my "cute walking to the car and then into a restaurant or my office" shoes.
Would love to have cute shoes that I can walk and shop in!

My free plantstand that DH brought home for me. It was a dog food display, the store had it sitting outside to throw away.

The green and blue planters I got on clearance at Michael's for .99 ea. The flowers in the 4 small planters were on sale for $1 ea. at our local nursery.

The 2 blue candle holders on the top shelf were on a clearance rack for $1. ea.

Many little things make me happy every day--from the first sip of coffee in the morning to reading in bed at night. I have worries and sadness, but they are kept in a different section of my brain.

Ellendi, do you ever shop at Zappos? They have so many sizes and styles, free shipping both ways. My DIL has feet like yours. (PS Seeing the dog happy is good!)

Opening purple martin gourds to check on the 43 eggs and finding that 25 of them have already hatched!

I picked up this little oak park bench at least 6 years ago.sitting on the curb with a FREE sign on it...but yesterday I stained it! The color is driftwood.....

It's amazing how undeveloped and seemingly weak those babes are! Mom and Dad have a lot of work to do with them.

Yes, Yogalady, our grandchildren's smiles. I also love it when the almost-4-year-old "gets" a joke. I love it when we facetime and I get to see the kids, even tho' I see them almost every weekend. They always want me to go around my house with the ipad so they can see what the dog and cat are doing.

Last week's gorgeous sunny days with lovely balmy breezes sitting on my patio with daughter and grandsons playing in the yard. They return for another visit next week, and I hope we have just as lovely days of sunshine.

The unrivaled color and perfection of natural beauty amazes me. DH laughs when I get caught up in the glory of the raspberries I'm washing for our breakfast cereal, each little bumpy cell vibrantly red. And the scent!

My uncared-for African violet continues to put out petals of not just color, but color brushed with a reflective surface that almost glows.

The whole array of *green* outdoors now is so lovely. We've had an overabundance of rain, and every growing thing has put out its' own shade of color -- mostly green.

One day last week all the animals, domestic & wild, were off their rockers.

When a squirrel darted in front of the car, I stopped & tooted the horn.
The squirrel stopped in the middle of the road, sat up on his haunches, looked me in the eye, & *barked* at me.
I laughed out loud.

My neighbor Ann called me around 9 PM & said...
"Sylvia, what do you know about ducks?"

She said there was a 'baby' duck in their drive way, & they were afraid it would get hurt or the dog would get it, but they didn't know what to do.

I walked over (it was easy to find my way in the dark;
all I had to do was aim my feet toward their flashlights),
& they had a grown wild duck cornered next to their fence.

As we were trying to figure out how to catch the duck so that Ann's boyfriend could take it to the lake (remember this for future reference: throw a towel over it & put it in a pet carrier), Ann's teen-aged daughter gasped & said,

"There's another *animal* out here!"

Was it something that had followed the duck?
Was it a coyote?
Was it a bobcat?
Was it a bear?

It was my dear fat old cat Gracie who had slipped out of the house & followed me.

I got Gracie years ago when someone moved & left her.
She'd been hunting in the woods along the creek before I took her home.

Although Gracie hasn't had to fend for herself in about 12 years, she remembers how it's done, & that duck had her extremely excited!

When I picked her up, she growled, but she never took her eyes off the duck.

Neighbor caught duck, put it into carrier, the whole bunch hopped into boyfriend's truck & away they went to the lake.

I carried Gracie back home & put her down...

It makes me happy to see Daisy Mae sitting on Jim's lap and giving him kisses. The best part is the smile on his face and how he seems to be perkier lately.

had a storm go thru so was closing windows...decied to stay in the middle bedroom and see why the eas sign was on cable (emergency weather alert) ended up watching a bit of the early weather and news....by then ws talking to myself deciding it was time to re open windows, ect, when the last of the thuder woke dh..and he answered me!...lol..had a good laugh about talking to myself....

It is the little things that get me through my days. Like today, I texted Tony that I had bought all the groceries I wanted and managed to stay on budget, he texted back AWESOME that really lifted my spirits.

I love the gentle kisses that Tony gives me when he knows I am in pain. The look in his eyes tells me he wishes he could take the pain himself. I am so blessed to have my wonderful family that take such great care of me.

Yesterday precious Finn called me on his dad's phone as they were going through the Starbucks drive thru. His dad didn't know he had called me and kept saying "Don't call anyone". Finn was saying "Hi, Grammy we are at the drive thru".

A thunderstorm rolled through last evening. We lost electric power at 6 pm and it did not come back until 2 am the next morning. That's the first power outage we've had in several years. Its amazing how much we take it for granted until we loose it.

I scrambled around the house with a flashlight hunting down the remains of old candles. Lit 6 candles - amazing how low that light level was. It was just enough to keep us from bumping into things.

And then, we became nervous about the possibility of falling asleep with lighted candles. We made sure to extinguish those before getting too relaxed. My wife's laptop kept running on battery, but she curtailed the vening's seaches to save battery run time just in case. My desktop was out of business - could not look at the market reports.

Its tough to do much reading by candle-light. I remarked, "Now I know why farmers of 100 years ago went to bed early", as we prepared to snooze until the power returned.

The power did return at 2 pm with a couple of false starts after which, the refrigerator came on and the air-conditioner fired up. We were back to normal. I could finish my laundry in the morning.

Yep, we had forgotten to be thankful for conveniences we take for granted. It was good reminder. The next day, we learned that power outages were widespread and there were customers who did not get power until a day or 2 later.

I found a new auto repair place via Angie's List and put my vehicle in with an oil leak. Some of those repairs can be very expensive.
Repair shop just notified me that it was a badly installed oil filter. Cheap repair.
So glad there are honest repair guys out there. My son got taken big time with one of the other kind a few years back.

Right now it is looking at my new sparkly burgundy mobility scooter! I am thrilled to finally have my own.
My little dog makes me smile every day and quite often both of us laugh out loud at her silliness and playfulness.
The days I have less pain and can actually get some things done!
Seeing all the beautiful plants and flowers in the atrium and yard, we have had a wet summer which is pretty unusual and the grass, plants and flowers are happy.

jemdandy, you need a Kindle that lights up for reading.

I'm liking the Nutri Bullet I bought....it really can liquify spinach leaves! Been having fun throwing fruits and veggies in and having a good tasting drink.....
And of course our pekingese, Caesar, always puts a smile on our faces :)

Going off Facebook at last was the best thing I've done lately. It was was getting to be both a bore and a chore. Cleared off everything, unfriended everyone, and ahhhhhhh..... I feel very free and very private. Ahhhhhh.......

Those are all great things! I'm glad so many of us have had little things to make us smile and be happy.

Going into work, walking into my room and have my babies happy to see me! They are just learning to talk, so I get many variations on my name, and it's just so adorable! Like Norm walking into Cheers! LoL

There's so many "little things", but right now, it was just watching the fireworks show from the little town just east of us.
Tomorrow night I'll get to watch the fireworks show at the Des Moines Area Golf and Country Club. My hubby's family does their show every year so we get the best seats by parking in the lot behind where they set them off.

You are right it is the small things that us happy. I never take those things for granted. That is why my home is so different from most. It's filled with my own small things and they make me smile. I have a picture of me hanging in my office that was taken in a piper plane by the pilot while flying around Mt McKinley. I even have the oxygen mask that I wore while up there. People see that and ask, "what is that up there for?".
