Favorite Old TV Shows

TV shows today are so graphic and technical. sometimes its great to go back to the basics.

I've been watching old reruns of Adam-12; and Emergency. They may be low tech but they are such great shows.

What are your favorite old shows?

Mystery! is my favorite, but isn't on as regularly as it used to be-alas. I also like NCIS, the original Law and Order (even with all the cast changes-really like the new Prosecutor), and Law and Order Criminal Intent. I like The Closer, but can never remember when it's on and there are a lot of 10 pm shows I would probably like, but I go to bed early (school starts early, don'tchaknow). House Hunters and HH International are fun, too. We actually know some people who were on House Hunters. Such a disappointment-they had already bought their house and the other two houses were just filmed for the show. Not sure if they are all like that, but this one was not entirely honest. Too bad.

Loved "The Castle" although I think the company that released it for the US, felt they needed to dub over bits of it so that Americans could understand it. Also from "down under", an off-beat love story: Eagle vs Shark and quite possibly the best comedy about Austrailan lawn bowling: Crackerjack (from 2002) And from France: "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" a comedy about a postal worker who gets transferred to "the sticks" in Northern France.

I liked Don Knotts too and thought he was a great addition to the show. I never cared for Suzanne Sommers or any of her replacements. Happy days was a great show, but they dragged it out for way too long. I always thought it was funny how Ritchie's brother Chuck disappeared on episode two. My favorite show was/is Seinfeld and while I was devastated when the show ended, I thought the timing was right and that they left on a high note. Same for Mary Tyler Moore and Everybody Loves Raymond.

Was in several plays in elem. school, many, many years ago and can't remember the name of any of them. When in RN training I had to have an elective and took Children's Theater and was in The Canterville Ghost, playing the English housekeeper, Mrs. Umney. We only put the play one time and the day of the play still needed some props. I drove to K-Mart to get some posterboard and stuff and as I was leaving a woman crossing the parking lot broadsided me. She wasn't in the driving lane just speeding across the parking slots.. I managed to get back to the theater with the stuff, rather upset and was consoled by other members, all of them college age students but me, in my 40s. I did mess up on one of my lines but no one even noticed until I told them afterwards and was apologizing. The instructor kept teasing me about being an English housekeeper with a Southern accent. lol. I really enjoyed this and have always wished I lived close enough to a community theater to join. Whether or not I acted, I enjoyed doing props and costumes. Our whole family roller skated in the mid 70s and were in skating productions and besides skating I made, designed and made many, many costumes. One of our DDs majored in theater in college and appeared in quite a few plays.

I used to love Wild Wild West with Robert Conrad. I had such a crush on him! Also loved the Partridge Family, Brady Bunch, and the Love Boat.

That was a great show! We have every episode recorded, without commercials, on VHS tapes. LOL!

I never saw The Avengers when originally broadcast, but I enjoyed watching some of the episodes on DVD. Diana Rigg was amazing. I find that while I have fond memories of some shows, I don't enjoy them when I try to watch them today.

My favorite series will probably always be The West Wing. I have the digital version and when I want some relaxing downtime, those are the episodes I like to watch. That series was an almost perfect blending of actors, writing and directing where heavy, serious topics were leavened with the quirky humanity of the characters.

Another show that I wish would become available in digital format is Reasonable Doubts with Mark Harmon and Marlee Matlin. I don't know if I would still like it, but I'd sure love to have the opportunity to view the episodes again.

Earlier this year I found the show "Hazel," which I love! She's a fun little spitfire and the show held my interest. But now it's on at some crazy-early hour of the morning so I can't see it anymore. Maybe they'll move it again. Watching these old shows, or even just having them on while I'm working makes me happy. Well, except for the sexism and usually single-ethnic casts.
