Anyone else listen to The Moth Radio Hour?

The Moth is on my local NPR station. It's "True Stories told Live."

Today I heard one told by a woman of color who described her experience working as a health caregiver assigned to work in the home of a KKK member. It was a very strained situation at first, but in the end all turned out well.

I always enjoy the stories. Sometimes they are funny, sad, interesting--a whole range of different situations people share (and do a good job of it too!).

I will have to see if I can find podcasts! When I can't sleep, I enjoy listening to podcasts. This sounds perfect! Thanks :)

If you like the Moth, you would love This American Life. I have the app on my iphone and I listen when I walk or drive longer distances. TAL has a theme for each broadcast and then 2-4 "acts" or stories that go along with the theme. I listened to one yesterday about 2 young children who were present at the burglary/murders of their mother and friends mother and how they reacted when they returned to the scene 30 years later. They are not all so tragic--some deal with the politics of the time, some are stories of people wronged and how they deal with it, some are just life stories. I like TAL better than the Moth, but I listen to them both.

Yes, I've been listening for a few years. I also try to catch Nellie Neal, aka Garden Mama on at about the same time on a competing radio channel, SuperTalk Mississippi. You will have to do a search to find a local channel. Both are book and journal authors, it's easy to find their books. Laurie

My Kitchenaid Micro Hood stinks! Anyone else?

I just re-read my message, and realized it didn't quite read the way I meant it - when I said I wouldn't blame KA, I meant for the manufacture of the machine. HOWEVER, I would blame them for not making good on the warranty which has their name on it, if that's what they are doing. Whether re-badged or not, it's still the KA nameplate on the microhood, and IMO, they should either (1) refund your money for this lemon, or (2) if they won't give you an outright refund, then have them replace their KA microhood with a KA hood--that way you can do as I suggested, have a real hood, and then buy an inexpensive countertop MW. (BTW, I have a KA fridge for 3 years, and it has performed flawlessly. I really like it.) Here's a link to the KA 600 cfm 30" wide hood, #KHTU105RSS. It came with my new car, but it's not user friendly in my car, the way my radio is set up, so I rarely use it. It mainly gets used on road trips. It does come in handy though if we are in the car and there is a sports game on that is important to dh or my boys b/c we can almost always find it broadcast on one of the many sports channels. Jujubean, what a coincidence that you mentioned Serial. My neighbor just told me about it yesterday and I listened to the first installment this morning while weeding through email on my computer. I actually live just south of Baltimore, and was living here at the time of that murder but I don't remember it at all. The journalist does raise interesting questions in first installment about whether people can honestly account for their time on any particular day, especially one that occurred many weeks prior. I really should acquaint myself better with what is broadcast on Sirius as I spend a lot of time in my car and probably would enjoy many of the channels.

Problems with Kitchenaid microhood. Anyone else?

Has anyone else had miserable luck with the Kitchenaid Architect series over range microwave hood? We bought one in October but didn't have it installed and in use until December. By early February, it stopped heating. Took a week for the service call. They said I need a new magnetron and a few other parts. That was supposed to take a week or so. Then we found out the parts are back ordered until at least 3/7. That will have been 5 weeks without this new, not inexpensive microwave. What's worse is that I have spent at least an hour on the phone dealing with this. Talking to the service company, talking to KA to try to expedite the parts, being transferred to Whirlpool, having to re-explain the story every time I call as they've not apparently recorded our conversations, giving my personal details 5 million times. I really can't even explain clearly how ridiculous it has been, but it has been ridiculous. I am so frustrated. Sears says it's too late to return (which seems the easier route here. Anyone else have this problem with this microwave? Any suggestions on dealing with KA? At the very least, let this be another warning to people about Kitchenaid. I'm just thanking my lucky stars that I listened to the on-line talk about the KA Architect range and didn't get that or the fridge. I'll just keep my fingers crossed on the dishwasher. Ridiculous. Really.

I listened to some "Moth" stories, but found them a bit long.

We try to catch "Under the Influence" with Terry O'Reilly (sp on the surname?). It's about marketing and airs on PBS here Saturdays at 6:30 a.m.

I hadn't heard of the Moth, but I'll look for it online. Like Sleeperblues, I love This American Life.

Love The Moth and TAL. I've heard some amazing stories on The Moth. People have fascinating stories to tell.

I like "The Moth," too, as well as TAL.
"The Memory Palace" podcast is another good one, as is the "Freakonomics" one.

I'm another who loves TAL and Moth, altho my local station moved the Moth to a time when I can't listen and I have too much other things to do to bother with a podcast.

Funny TAL stories are Squirrel Cop and The Peter Pan play episode.

I love those both, Sushi. The narrative of what happens to those poor kids is hysterical, and the squirrel cop one struck home. How one little incident can go from bad to worse to worst.

We get them on CBC Radio, and NPR/PRI uses quite a bit of CBC Radio stuff, as well.
