We are having Grilled Chicken (which I will turn into chicken salad with the leftovers) Saute'd Onions & Peppers and Baked Beans...

We have a newly opened Winn Dixie that serves wonderful takehome meals.

Mine was the $5.99 meal, with two pieces double dipped fried chicken breast and a wing, baby green limas, creamed corn.

They have a Butcher Block for $7.99 with prime rib, today, roasted brussel sprouts and some kind of salad.

I had leftover split pea soup, and a side dish of chicken salad.

King syrup on oatmeal pancake (already made up, so just popped the frozen disk into the microwave); apple cider. The syrup made it sorta high calorie, but the rest is healthy enough. Glass of skim milk. I think the size of the breakfast is directly related to the usual physical activity of the consumer. Back when I got up at 0430 to bike-deliver papers over a 5 mile route, I probably tucked in a couple thousand calories via pancakes, eggs, bacon and several pieces of jelly-topped toast. But that was followed by a full school day, a couple hours doing yard and garden work, an hour to fix dinner and make breads and desserts, cleaning house the old fashioned way - no vacuum or steamer; then babysitting and homework. No car, so transportation was shank's mare or bike. Oh yes, and I played baseball with the neighbor kids a couple times a week and eventually took up other sports at school which involved biking 8 miles to/from the school.

I never used to make so many desserts, either -- I hardly ever make dessert all year, so why do it when they aren't even very good? But I could do the candy and frozen bonbons before I went to Israel, so I did them just for fun. Also, my kidz will be home for a few days, and when my daughter is home, the house fills up with her friends, so it's good to have some stuff around. lovestocookfor6, I don't have much experience with the frozen gefilte fish. My friend recently made a terrific dish with two frozen gefilte fishes, one salmon and one "regular," spread in layers in a spring form pan. She said it was really easy. I liked it so much I took home half the leftovers! I thought about it, but I have too many people for that. Anyway, I happen to like the stuff in the jar. My friend and I are not giving up on our quest to learn to make really good homemade gefilte fish. We need a lesson from someone with experience; recipes are fine, but we need to know the correct pre-cooking textures and tastes. The frozen strawberry mousse is really fun to make. I made it this morning. Be sure to use your very biggest bowl -- it is amazing how much this small amount of ingredients grows. The recipe perfectly fills my big glass trifle bowl. 2 egg whites 3/4 c sugar 1 pint (small basket) strawberries, hulled, sliced, and lightly sprinkled with sugar 1 T lemon juice pinch of salt 3 T "square wine" (kosher concord grape wine) Beat egg whites to stiff peaks. Add sugar and beat again to stiff peaks (that's what the recipe says, but think more like "marshmallow fluff"). With mixer on low, add the remaining ingredients and start beating slowly, then bring up speed. Beat for 15 (yes, 15) minutes. Cover and freeze overnight. It doesn't freeze very hard, and it melts pretty fast, but it refreezes pretty well. Garnish with strawberries or nuts. (Chocolate curls would probably look spectacular, but I can't stand chocolate with fruit.) Enjoy! I hope you find the afikomen --

momj47, THANKS for the recipe...that cake looks amazing! I keep wondering though, who has 10 cake pans?!! virginia, it sounds like you made special plans to me. Working in the yard is a plan (which is mine this weekend); about whether or not it's special I guess depends on how you feel about it when it's done! gibby, your cooking plans and lake weekend sound fun. Enjoy all that good food! I had a dream yesterday morning we bought a lake place (without a boat), and it was across the street from the lake. I remember thinking I liked the view until a car drove past to obscure it for me. I guess that tells me if I ever get the opportunity, what NOT to do! eileen, Yumm! I may just have to add potato salad to my menu for the weekend. It sounds delicious, especially with my ribs. terri, I'm not finding any good strawberries yet since ours are mostly shipped in, so I'll bet it will be Father's Day for us too. Have a wonderful and tasty holiday! (I love the idea of London Broil.) My closest TJ's is in St. Louis which is a four hour drive for me. Obviously I haven't made that in an while! We had sautÃÂ©ed scallops and cucumber salad. The scallops were not great. Frozen, wild caught and USA, but we were disappointed. On the other hand, the big lobster I cooked for my sister was excellent. Laura, we are talking Sunday dinner, right?

DH had a hamburger smothered in onions and mushrooms with home fries and corn on the cob. I cooked up a chicken tonight for chicken salad so I nibbled on some of the dark meat. Seems like a lot of us are on the same page with chicken salad. I'm having Mexican train here Tuesday night after our member guest day and luncheon. I figured it will be a late lunch and no one is going to feel much like dinner so I decided to served chicken salad on some crackers for people to nibble on along with a ground beef and been dip with corn chips. That should cover it for Tuesday.

We split an omelet loaded with mushrooms, green onions, green peppers, fresh spinach, a bunch of cheese (cheddar, swiss, pepper jack) . Fresh fruit and yogurt on the side.

Here you go, ShirleyÃ¢ÂÂ¦

Sombrero Dip

1/2 C chopped onion cooked with
1/2 lb. ground beef, browned and drained
Stir in 1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 C. hot ketchup*
add 1 8 oz. can kidney beans, mashed

Cook together and put in serving bowl and top with grated cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, & sliced pimento olives. Serve with corn chips

*In all the years I've been making this, I've yet to find hot ketchup so I just add some hot sauce to the ketchup. Enjoy!

Hey, good-lookin! Happy "Sunday!" LOL

It rained all day with coolish temps. I was in the mood for a beef roast so that's what we had. I cooked enough potatoes to make potato salad tomorrow, with the grilled sausages that is planned.

So tonite was roast beef and gravy, potatoes and sauteed asparagus. Fresh made rhubarb pie was dessert.

Speaking of asparagus.... I bought asparagus at my usual supermarket. When I washed them, they felt gritty. When I tasted one during cooking, it was still gritty. I rinsed them after cooking and it still did not get the first off. Intossed them.

I have never had this issue.

I did complain to the assistant produce manager who said he would pass it on. I didn't have my receipt ( who saves a grocery receipt?) they should have offered me a free bunch, but whatever.

Have any of you had an issue with asparagus?

About 10% of the last asparagus I bought turned grey and kind of slimy when I blanched them. I've never had that happen. I threw the icky ones out. The others tasted fine.

Because of my snake-y adventure earlier in the evening I didn't feel much like cooking.
I found some oriental pork dumplings from Trader Joe's in the freezer, made a package of ramen noodles, and steamed some of the sugar snap peas I had picked from the garden.

Glenda-I will have to check into those hot dinner meals from Winn Dixie because that is where I buy my groceries from,.

Gadgets-Tony would love your split pea soup and since I am going to fox chicken salad out the rest of my chicken I would love your chicken salad.
