I think our last bunny

Will soon be going over the rainbow bridge. He fooled me last week but it really isn't looking good right now. He is 9 years old and has had a good life living in my kitchen and having fun running around. I am sitting here with him. Hoping he is just trying to nap.

Heat fool me yet. I've been sitting here for an hour and he finally got up and moved. He's sitting instead of laying down. Even when my grandson came in he didn't move earlier. Thanks for the hug.

Glo - Thanks for reassuring me! I hope your move is awesome! My husband has wanted to move us to Colorado for years and hasn't managed to quite convince me yet, although I think it's absolutely wonderful there. LOL So, Winter Solstice is the same everywhere? (LOL)... I guess you're seeing how little I know... Nancy - Thanks for the tip! I am gonna have to watch the lead hand myself as I way oversowed my cantaloupes this fall. The poor babies are fighting each other and giving me 2 to 5 inches fruits that don't look like they're EVER going to full ripen. I will be much more careful in the future. I'll try to not get TOO excited when I go to plant. LOL Carrie - Wow! That's some really good info. That's exactly the kind of thing I was worried about. I'm grateful for the heads up. Liz - LIZ!!! Hey, girl! Fancy meeting you here and there and now here! hee hee... The whole last paragraph of what you wrote is exactly what is concerning me. I know that I personally wear shorts through-out almost the whole winter except for those few crazy days that we see. 50's or what have you is not cold to me... We do get the occasional freeze, but then a week or two later at most you could have a 70+ degree high! All this in the same few days / weeks / months... it's SO crazy! just a thought or two - but did you research your planners pretty good? we thought we did - but apparently didnt. we got lured in by the fancy smancy computer drawings and when we met with the fella - he wanted to do everything by email, no face to face time. we convinced him to meet with us several times, but he had very little input into our actual design as far as giving assitance, if we had said we wanted a wall to be 10.37546 inches - he would have drawn it that way - instead of telling us what is more practical from a builders standpoint while keeping our ideas in mind. we ended up with a nice plan - but we did every bit of it and all he did was put it in his program. $3k. hindsight. we probably could have selected a default plan and had the company modify it for less. lesson learned. you have to remember - the way they are viewing it is the planner/architect is drawing out only what you express to them. if there is a breakdown in communication - that is where people go -- "what tha ....?" lady i work with is designing one and just got her plans back and she was griping left and right about nothing was right about the plan - when we asked her if she told the designer if that is what she wanted - she said no, "she figured she knew what she was trying to build..."

Gardenmax, yours are the very cases that separate ovens and cooktop configurations were designed for! If you like the Bluestar, you could get the BS rangetop or cooktop and if you like the Monogram range ovens, get the GE Monogram oven and mount it at the optimal height for you. It could still be self-cleaning but using it then will be much easier on your back. My mother has osteo-arthritis problems but only confined to her knees thus far. She has had total knee replacement surgery on both knees now. It isn't fun, I can see. Do whatever is necessary to keep from inflamming the affected joints. In addition to raising the DW, see about having the counters installed at THE most comfortable working height for you, too.

You need to get him to the vet right away. Nine years old is not considered elderly. He may have a blockage. If he is not eating and peeing and pooping he needs a vet NOW.

Deeby, he is doing all he is supposed to, just not active otherwise. He is a mini Rex and for him this is old according to our vet. His mate was 9 1/2 when we lost her a year ago last Christmas. Our first bunny was 8 when we lost her. Thank you.

Thank you all for your good thoughts. He has been moving around and in his dishes since I posted. I guess I'm just not used to him napping so long and anyone coming in the door.

my dd1 is beginning to raise rabbits, but with 2 small dogs, they have their own "house", lol...sil bought a prefab shed and added heating, windows for the winter...outdoor pens for the summer....the girls show them at 4h...they're such sweet pets...i'm assuming your baby is litter trained?

it's always so distressing when a pet gets to "that" age...

Susan, yes Sonny is litter trained. They are so easy to train to the litter box! We have had three now. Sonny is our second. We rescued Sydney about nine months later and they stayed as close to each other as they could get until about a month after they were both fixed. Then they lived in a dog kennel in my kitchen. Winter and summer they would sit or lay right next to each other. I am actually surprised he has lasted this long without Sydney. He is doing better tonight, even throwing his bowl around. I am hoping he was just needing a really good nap, but he is slowly on his way. Nothing that can be done at this point but love h and continue to take care of him.

Tami hope he manages to make it and has more time with you...Rabbits are such fun pets....I have had a few mini rex myself...they are such beautiful creatures...Deeby where did you read that he wasn't eating, drinking or pooping..
I think 9 years old is old for a rabbit ...it depends on the breed of rabbit but if you have one that lives 9 years old you are pretty darn lucky.

When I raised rabbits I quickly learned that they suffer in the heat. I would not let any of them breed after April or before mid-September so they didn't have to deal with heat and bunny care.

I would freeze gallon jugs of water and place one in each hutch before going to work. Luckily, work was close so I could run home at lunch and switch out the now-melted jug for a freshly frozen one.

They loved leaning against the ice jugs in the hot afternoons.

Do you think he'd feel better with a bit of cooling down?

Thank you all for your good thoughts and comments. Sonny is still with us and moving around some. As much as is his normal for his condition and age. He has been to the vet several times. At this point they would tell us to put him down. He is happy if not perfectly healthy. We are seeing the same signs as we did with our past bunnies. If he was in pain we would do what we needed to. He sure gave me a scare though.
He still gets excited for his lettuce and other goodies so he's doing ok.
