Iguassu Falls in Brazil

Several times before I've posted pictures of our visit back in 2010 to Iguassu Falls which is on the Brazil/Argentina border. It is often referred to as the most impressive waterfall in the world, with a height nearly twice that of Niagara, and a width nearly three times that of Niagara.

Just today my wife forwarded a video of the recent conditions at the falls where due to prolonged heavy rain, the falls have been experiencing all-time record flow rates.
For comparison, the average flow of Niagara Falls is 85,000 cu ft/s, with a maximum recorded flow of 293,000 cu ft/s.
Iguassu has an average flow of 61,660 cu ft/s, but its maximum flow rate a week or so ago, was 1,614,000 cu ft/s -- over five times as much as the record at Niagara.

Compare some of my pictures below with the conditions in the videos linked to later. Note the pictures should all be clickable for a better view.

This is a map of the area:

These pictures from the Brazil side show a walkway stretching out over an intermediate level of the falls, with a view at the end down into the canyon.

This one is actually on the walkway

You can see in the videos below that the walkway is mostly submerged in the torrent, and that the steel railings have washed away in many places.

This picture from the end of the walkway where the previous picture was taken, looks down the canyon showing how deep it is.

In the videos you can see that the canyon is mostly filled by the water. Also you can see in the videos that much of the bare cliff in the above photo has water rushing over it.

This picture shows the viewing platform on the Argentina side, which is located at the top of the largest part of the falls, Garganta del Diablo.

This picture shows the view of Garganta Del Diablo from the end of the platform

This picture captured from news footage, seems to show that the platform is pretty much destroyed.

This aerial view show what it looks like under normal conditions:

And this show the conditions during the flooding:
