Clearly, I'm not especially fashion conscious these days, I go more for comfort, and mostly covered up. I don't have any more pounds to cover than I did when a teenager, but somehow they look better with a bit of fabric over them.

She at least does have underwear bottoms on to cover the front, not much coverage in the back though. It would have been beautiful with a silk liner sheath underneath.

Obviously not the least bit uncomfortable wearing it.. It certainly does take all kinds but......

She sure has a round, firm, cute bottom. I bet it was uncomfortable sitting on that fabric all night, but I bet the guys and the press loved it. Too bad she displays herself this way to get the attention she wants. She is a beautiful woman.

Unfortunately we live in a age where nudity & sex sells. She is a beautiful girl with clothes on. At least she covered the front bottom half. If this is allowed what's next!!

On the one hand we are outraged that the recent shootings have been fueled by women who rejected sexual advances from men; on the other we glorify nudity in public. Look but don't touch.

If she wore something "normal" it wouldn't get her as noticed. She is gorgeous and talented, but obviously that is not enough for her.

Geez people are judgmental. I think it's great that she's confident enough to do that. She's already one of the most successful people in music - pretty sure she doesn't need to do it for attention but rather because she wants to. But I generally don't have a problem with what consenting adults do if it doesn't hurt anyone else. It's just a body.

Also, If I looked like that I don't think I would ever bother with clothes, lol.

Not a Rihanna fan. I think she shows bad judgement most of the time. If I understand correctly, this is a dress for an award show for the fashion industry. In that context, I'm not sure the dress was inappropriate. This is an industry where nudity is often acceptable and fashion is cutting edge.

I think the actual dress is beautiful. It would look wonderful and be more sexy with some sort of liner underneath.

I agree with adellabedella, it's "fashionable". Some things that come down the runway aren't meant for every place or time, but the clothing can sure be a work of art. This is artful. Her body is distracting from the dress itself though, so maybe there should be a lining? But she's supposed to be showing off herself? Fine line.

This is the front side of it. If only she had worn more but she wanted to get the attention. Had it been lined she would be perceived as a beautifully dressed woman but I guess that's not what she wants.

Obviously, this was done for publicity. One "they" will talk about for years to come, and eventually someone will try to top it though, I don't know how. Remember JoLo's green dress all those years ago. That was nothing compared to what they wear today.

I guess it's easy to call people who thought the dress was too revealing as "judgmental" but we don't live in a society where nudity is accepted. Europeans are much more accepting of it than we are, so I guess you would have to call most of American society judgmental. Like I said, to me it would be like trying to avert my eyes from a highway accident--I really want to look and see the blood and guts but I know I should respect the privacy of those involved. But privacy is the last thing she wants, lol. I do agree, she has a lovely body. But I know if I had that body, I would still clothe it.

i belong to several Facebook sewing groups and I am shocked by some of the outfits that some of the younger girls make for "clubbing"...they are so revealing that I couldn't even imagine wearing something like they show us...To me something sexy, leaves a lot to the imagination...

Positives:

She won't find another woman wearing the same dress at any dinner parties she attends, I don't think anyone else would wear this.
If she hangs it in the closet for a season and it gets a little moth hole, no one will notice.
She would be waved right through at the airport, it would be difficult to hide or smuggle stuff

There have been many, many, many women who go back into abusive relationships. Unless you live it, you can't really understand, and I think calling someone names for it is wrong. That being said, i don't know what that has to do with her outfit.

It just bothers me that generally in society it's okay to drool over half naked men (officer andy anyone? lol) but as soon as a women does it she's a slut or a ho or an airhead, classless, low self-esteem attention seeking idiot.

Oh boy, if she turned around and faced forward, she could get arrested.

Abused women almost always have been browbeaten emotionally & mentally as well as having been physically tormented & terrorized, sometimes for their whole lives.

Many times they return to the abuser, or let the abuser back into the house, because they believe him when he says he's sorry & because they don't realize there's any other choice.

One thing that's been said here is that her self-esteem must be low, as though that reflects poorly on her rather than on whatever person/people who treated her badly, maybe starting with a parent or step-parent.

That dress is an advertisement for a celebrity, for a star.

& that dress served its purpose.

I'd say something but either way I turned it would be refuted. Let's just that IN MY OPINION that is completely unacceptable in public. Yes she definitely is getting the attention she was hoping for so mission accomplished.

Abuse is a complicated issue, and even after receiving extensive training when I worked for a domestic violence agency it's often difficult for me to understand why women go back, sometimes time and time again. But to see such a woman dismissed as an airhead is sad.

I hope it never happens to you or someone you love, Eclair.

I'm sure there are women that are abused by their bf/husband at both ends of the spectrum from airhead to brilliant genius and everything in between and the same can be said for income levels AND the same can be said for the abusers. It's an equal opportunity offender.
