any rubber stampers here? Ink pad question

I have an ink pad I got at a thrift shop. It's a RubberStampede Neon Ink Pad with yellow, pink, green and orange colors. It must be ancient, because I couldn't find any reference to it on Google, but the ink is still moist enough to be revived.

Problem is, I can't tell if it's dye or pigment ink. I suspect dye, but would hate to ruin it by using the wrong "stuff" to refresh it.

Is there an easy way to tell which is which?

(I looked at the scrapbooking forum, but their most recent post was back in January, so I'm trying here.)

Jann, by the looks of the web site I will link, it looks like it should be a dye base ink. I am not postive, but that's what it looks like to me. It's thier ink pads listed, but not that particular one. Hope this helps. One thing that might help you figure it out is, dye base dries quickly, pigment ink stays wet longer. If you have any embossing powder, try embossing with it. If the embossing powder sticks to the ink and puffs up like it's supposed to, then it's pigment.

Maryliz, You are going to love this. Have you heard of Linda Franz? You must go to her site and see her product "Inklingo." She is really into precision marking and hand stitching, so this new product of hers is exactly what you need. I have used it and can vouch for it. Essentially, you iron the right side of your fabric onto freezer paper as suggested above, then print the hexagons onto the fabric with almost any inkjet printer. Amazingly, most injet printer inks will wash right out of your fabric. Inklingo includes pages for various sizes of hexagons and prints a very thin cutting line and dashed stitching line including registration marks at centers and corners for exact matching. You choose the page you want to print on your fabric in the color that works best for your fabric and can choose whether to rotary cut or cut with scissors (that layout usually saves fabric). Her CDs also include diamonds, half square triangles, half hexes, etc. The various disk collections include various compatible sizes of the shapes. I am not affiliated, trust me, I've spent my money with her and am anxious to get the latest book and CD. I recently participated in a swap of hexagons using Inklingo so I have used it and absolutely love the results. FYI, I found a solution to the same kind of prob as the original poster. A cheap woven rug made of synthetic materials had "etched" it's pattern onto my floors (which were red oak with a satin water-based polyurethane finish. And BTW, I did NOT put the rug down until several years after the floor was finished). Tried rubbing alcohol first, but it seemed to actually sort of "melt" the finish a little, and even though it helped a little, it seemed way too dangerous to use, I mean it seemed like it would just remove the poly finish if I rubbed too hard. So simply I tried LIGHTLY rubbing with "0000" steel wool (WITHOUT using any alcohol or mineral spirits or anything) then lightly buffing by hand, and it worked like a charm! Hope this helps.

Clever way to store rubber bands

I buy a thin block of cheese about 9" long and like to fold the open end back over the block to keep it from drying out and a rubber band makes it much easier to handle ... actually, several rubber bands, of graduated lengths. My son buys long thin balloons with hundreds in a bag to blow up and twist into various shapes, e.g. flowers, animals, etc. to happify kids at festivals and often has some lying around. Sometimes there are a few around my place, and I've tied them into a circle at various lengths when I needed one of a different size than the ones available. True - best not to use them to hold stuff that need to be together, long term, as they get sick and die after a couple of years. Can use 'em to put around the sun shield on your car to hold some frequently-used papers that don't have a good place to sit, elsewhere: keeps it/them up out of the way (or getting lost) ... or trampled under foot, which has a detrimental effect on most non-plastic covered papers. I carry some papers that get get carried around quite a lot in a plastic bag Make a list of the different circuits from your electrical box, fasten it to the door of the box with an elastic band ... or - you could glue it, or use sticky tape If you haven't figured all of which plug/light is on which circuit, gets difficult to do a write-in if it's under plastic, may be unhandy if it's glued. Rubber band allows much more freedom of temporary portability of the stuff corralled. ole joyful

Sushi, thank you. At first glance, their site looks more like something for commercial stamps and inks, rather than art-stamping inks. I'll look again if nothing more specific turns up.

Tami, I think you're right--it's probably dye. I think my pad is so old, they weren't making pigment stamp pads yet--lol. It's not "juicy" enough to make embossing powder stick, so can't test that way. I may sacrifice the green (it's not a very pretty green) just to see if the refresher for dye works.

Jannaz, did you try to reink the pad yet? If the pad is made of a sponge-like material, it is likely pigment ink. If it is like a thick cotton pad with a fabric top layer, it is likely dye ink.

I did some investigating and RubberStampede made dye based ink pads. I could find no menion of them making pigment ones.
