Resizing images/pictures a little help tutorial

Since our wonderful new image upload feature lets us take the pictures right from our own pc and upload it here to the forum for view, I thought I would post a couple of real easy ways to resize your pictures on your pc since there is a size limit here.

There is actually a resizer made by microsoft for those with an xp computer, I have used it for years it is extremely easy to add to your computer, once you have it you will be able to simply right click on any picture on your pc and you will have the option to resize the picture, you can choose one of the sizes offered or choose to custom size. This will not affect your original it will create a new one in the smaller size.

This is offered on the microsoft power toys page, go to this page scroll down to image resizer click download a box will pop up that is the imageresizer exe. Save it to your pc, go to where you saved it double click on it and install. That is it.

Now for those that have vista or 7 there is one for you also, it is a clone of the above described power toy which works with your windows version.

click on the link on that page that is blue and says Image resizer 2.0

there are various websites you can also use to resize but having the option right on your pc is really the easiest way to go.

these are super easy to use the last one even allows you to choose if you want to save it as a jpg,gif,png file.

That should cover any resizing issues you may have.

In case anyone does not understand how to use the new image upload feature.

1. right above the title of the thread there is now a image file to upload area with a browse button.

2 click the browse button.

3 go to the location on your pc where you have pictures stored.

4 select a picture by clicking on it.

5 click the open button

6 the link to your picture will now appear in the blank on your post where it says image file to upload.

Hit preview button as you normally would then the submit button.

If you happen to go back to edit your post for any reason before you hit submit you will again have to select your picture it will not keep it, a small glitch.

IrfanView is another one that is free and very easy to use to resize and many other options ...

Are you "typing" up a letter to print out? Or is this an email type of letter? If you are using Word, or something similar to make a letter that you are printing, - insert the picture, then click on it so the little boxes show up around it. Then put your mouse over a corner - click & drag your picture in to resize it as you desire. Make sure you drag only a corner.

Unfinished paint grade doors from a cabinet door company will probably run you around $100 each. The labor is what will cost you on this project. I'd expect the labor to be between $300-$500, depending on locale. This would be a fairly easy DIY job for someone who owns a screw driver and can wield a paint brush. However, I'd really caution you on the safety of having a MW located that high up. It IS an issue that you need to be aware of. It'll be LOT more difficult to clean, requiring the uses of a step stool to reach. It's too high to safely pull out hot beverages. It's well outside the average human's comfort reach zone unless you're 7' tall. It'd be downright dangerous for kids or shorter adults and your insurance company might not be that happy with you in creating such a safey hazard in your home.

Hi John I've also heard Irfanview is very good. I use Paintshop but it's an expensive option if you just need to resize. I am not sure what the size limit is here I want to say that it may be 250.
But I can't swear to that. When we were doing the testing of it, it said there the size limit.
Does anyone remember?
We can ask Tamara for the specifics.

you could still use any of the online versions with a Mac. I don't do Mac so I really have no idea what is a good option other than those I mentioned online.

You will like Irvanview, it is so easy to use. I size and frame my wall paper and I can put rain drops on it or make the frame 3 d or crop something on the edge of your pictures if you just want the face or a dog, etc..

I am a big fan of the Windows Power Toy Resizer - and the clone for Windows 7! I am using the one for Windows 7 right now....

I choose MEDIUM for the size of the picture I am posting here.

One of the really nifty things with using that gadget is that you don't have to open an software. You can go right from the "browse" window that opens - right click on the image you want resized, choose the resizer and the size to make it, and it automatically does it and renames it. It pops up a couple seconds later and you can click on it to select.

It is certainly the easiest and fastest option out there!!!!

Yes it is definitely the easiest way to go and no need to install any big 3rd party programs. This is why it is always my first suggestion for a simple way to resize.
I have had irfranview too it does much more than just resize, it is a nice program, but much more than one needs for simply resizing. Should one need that kind of photo editing software it is a good option.

I love Fast Image Resizer, because it will resize zillions of pictures in a matter of seconds. Plus, it puts them in a separate folder (within their original folder) that says "resized". I've used it for XP, Vista and Windows 7. It's really great when you want to email a bunch of photos.
