Paint Nite

I'm visiting my sister in Md for a few days. Daughter lives about 40 min. away in Baltimore. We bought tickets from groupon for something called Paint Nite. You can go to their website to see what it's about. Regular $45, groupon deal was $25.

You go to the restaurant/bar wherever they are hosting it. Everyone gets a 16x20 canvas and all the paint and brushes they need. Then an instructor walks you through how to paint a picture. It was so much fun. They have them all over the country. And there are different pictures to choose from.

That's awesome, I like your painting the best. You really captured the moonlight on the water so well. Sounds like a fun time.

Thanks for all the input everyone. clubcracker-Yes! That fine line between lovely warmth and cheese is what I'm trying to find! It is elusive! :) As for painting against a white background, I actually NEED to see the colors compared to each other. As I said, I painted the living room with #1, so I now know what that looks like en masse, and I know the gold needs to come down a notch or two, so I need to see the new colors in relation to it. auntjen - I have been amazed at the difference in these colors as they dry. I mix them up and they look all look the same in the bowl, and I think "this is going to be no different at all", but when it dries on the wall it is different with just the tiniest dollop more or less of the gold color. It's amazing. I am mixing my own, by the way, because the #1 color is as close as I can find to the color in my head. I also have a sample of a taupe which doesn't seem to have any undertones at all, so I'm using that to neutralize the gold. chispa, the Grant Beige chip looks kind of greenish in my house. I have a weirdly yellow-green couch which rules out many of the greens, unfortunately. That's why I'm leaning to gold. I have painted bigger swatches of #2 and #3 (though I've run out of #2 now) and I'll watch them in the different lights of the day and night. So far I like them both and I'm starting to think I could be happy with either, but I will definitely give them some more thought. Thanks for the help!

Yum yum! I love the sound of your new colors. Actually, of all your colors. First I want to doublecheck with you about whatever color you choose for your eaves: in your first post you write that the current "grandma green" fades away. While I love a black watch green I think it will fade even more into your eaves. I think it could also highlight the black in your roof shingles. I know your first choices (straw, rust) seem v. bright but that's partly because you're unused to them. Anything over time loses its pop! And yes, the straw and rust are brighter than your current colors ("grandma green" and dark brown). That being said, your current color combination (which is on your house) is more sedate but does not draw attention to the windows / doors. Is that something you want to do? To draw attention to the windows / doors? Okay, as mad as I am for the green, what do you think about painting the addition's siding the rust color and then also using it (the rust) for your eaves? Or painting the addition and under the eaves the dark brown (the dark brown you currently have on your windows)? That way you don't have to change anything other than the siding / eaves. Or, just painting the eaves the dark brown and leaving the siding that pretty pink? Rereading your posts I'm getting the feel that you want to both play up the eaves as well as distract your eye from the new roof (which you dislike but which I think looks great). Before you purchase any more paint, let's think about what you're really after so you don't have to paint any more (or any less) to get what will make you happier about your beautiful lady!

If it makes you feel any better . . . Years ago my wonderful son decided to tape pictures to his new bedroom furniture. Now, this was not top of the line furniture, more crappy laminate furniture that was all we could afford at the time. Anyways, when the tape was removed, so was the very thin laminate underneath :( . I ended up getting this super cool decals that could be taken off and re-applied with no damage and covering the bare spots. I had loads of people trying to buy this same furniture when I sold it on ebay, and no one cared about those bare spots. On the other hand, I found him writing on a piece of paper that was lying on his brand new maple floor with a black sharpie and freaked out. Then, I got some windex and sprayed the part that had seeped onto the wood floor. It just dissapeared! Before I even wiped it off! You win some, you lose some.

I've been to Paint Nite a couple of times and loved it! Your picture is great (and I agree - I like yours the best!).

Thanks everyone. kayjones, you absolutely should do it. Take a couple girlfriends, its a blast.

get the coupon from groupon before they take it down. Its good for 6 months so no hurry.

What fun! I've never heard of that. I like your picture best too--plus you look like your beautiful daughter's sister!

What medium did you use--acrylics?

I'm going to guess and say water based acrylic??

Oh alisande, you just made my day. Not true, but very nice of you to say. I hope some other people will try it, it was really better than I expected.

Beautiful! I have been checking that out in my area they call it 'Art Plus Vino', it is at a winery in Temecula one of our many S Cali wine areas. I will be taking a GF for her 50th bday~~I am quite excited about it.

I am really amazed that you can make such a beautiful painting in a few hours, while drinking wine;)

This one was held at the Greene Turtle in Columbia, Md. So we went early, had dinner then took our seats for the painting. It's 2 hrs. long.

I'm buying another coupon and doing it again. And yes, you drink while painting hahaha

They have that around here too. I went to one but wasn't thrilled with the subject we had to paint. It was just leaves on a vine. Boring!!!

I love yours and yes, yours is the best. You had a good subject and I'm impressed with all three of you!!!

We have a place here in Reno also, Picasso and wine... lots of fun. My DD and I did it. She has gone back a few times now. We are going to do it again soon.

So much fun! Yours look great!

Katlan, I thought the same things as Alisande, you look like sister, not mother/daughter. I had to reread who you were again to get it straight. You all did a fantastic job on the paintings! Thanks for sharing you fun night and art.
