Try using a wireless mouse....that's what I use for my laptops.

That does sound frustrating. I also use a wireless mouse.

Wait a minute. I have a desktop computer with a wired mouse. The mouse plugs into the back of the computer via one of the USB ports. I can also take that same mouse (or one identical to it, as I have several), and plug it into a USB port on my laptop, and it works just fine. The USB mouse DOES NOT USE A BATTERY.

Maybe I'm wrong, because I don't use a wireless mouse, but it seems to me that if any mouse is going to need a battery, it would be a wireless mouse, so I'm confused as to why folks are saying "use a wireless mouse."

Sidnee -- have you double checked to make sure the battery is plugged in using the correct orientation? That is, the positive end and the negative end where they're supposed to be? If you have it backwards, it won't work.

Sidnee I bought myself a nice laptop a while ago. Loved the wireless mouse my daughter had, and got myself one of them too. The little do dad that plugs in to the computer overheated and quit working. I hate the touch pad, thus, got another mouse.

Well, lasted less than two weeks and it quit too, for the same reason.

Now I dug out an old mouse with a cord, and plugged it in, and have been using it for over two years. Same plug opening.. no problems. Go figure!

Just use a regular mouse with a cord, problem "sol-ved". Wireless mice are problematic.

I prefer the wireless mouse as well, but I have found there are a couple brands that I do NOT like. Some work far better and last longer than others. Two I like are Microsoft and GE.

The wireless mouse requires batteries and a dongle plugged into the computer. I'm assuming that's what OP meant by "plug and unplug."

It might be a software issue. Have you gone to the website of the company that made the mouse and looked for solutions?

I feel your pain. I have a low frustration threshold for computer malfunctions.

I think it healed itself overnight. It is a wireless mouse. I do not get it, but will look for new drivers. :o/

I use a mouse with a tail - plugs into the USB port. Make sure it is an optical mouse and not some old relic with a ball that someone hoped to move off his stock shelf.

The mouse should fit nicely in the palm of your hand. Those minature mice that are included with some laptops are ok for space saving, but a pain in the wrist if you have to do much. My fingers get cramped trying to hang onto a little mouse.

My optical mice typically last 5 years and are used daily with a day off occassionally.

I tossed my wireless mouse five years ago, and use a Wacom Tablet and pen. I *love* it!!! But, I use Adobe Photoshop and it makes using that program so much easier. I love that it's just like a pen and paper. I'll never use a mouse again.

All my days are without pay. I am retired and work a little for myself managing my accounts and have to steel myself from being a worry wart. I do try to stay connected to my former field of employment.

The reason for the term "wireless" - the little transmiter for the mouse plugs into the laptop is only for transmitting the orientation of the mouse, it doesn't supply power to the mouse.
Even a wired mouse needs batteries.

I suspect the port, where the transmitter is plugged in, is defective.

I think the port had gone bad, DH said forgetaboutit and he bought me a new laptop. He is a sweetie.

Who cares if a mouse cord is attached? No batteries. Mine is to a desktop, hate laptops.
