Whyyyyyyyyyyyy did I wait so long to try it????

I know KT'ers are the best cooks ever! (right up there with my Mom)

All the talk of it today and I know I have had the recipe at least a couple years just waiting to be tried!

Well today was cold and dreary and I made it and

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

goshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

It is one of the best cakes I've ever tasted!!! I made a brown sugar topping for it with pecans that was posted over at the Cooking forum with Pixis recipe.

I'm seriously kicking myself for not trying it sooner!

DH and I each had a peice. Now I gotta get it out of the house before we devour the entire cake in one evening!!! LOL

Those look delicious,both dh and i like all things lemony. Although earlier this year he was on my S**t list.I was out grocery shopping and he was working in the yard when i left and still out there when i got back,and low and behold he had cut down our meyer lemon tree.I almost took him to divorce court(NOT).But i did give him a piece of my mind.He thinks it will come back,i don't know if it will or not.That tree gave a lot of lemons every year.. I made these brownies on Saturday for our Symphony picnic in the park. Boy were they a hit! I did brush the tops with KahlÃºa as the recipe suggested, and I have to say I think that is the perfect touch. With three eggs and 40 minutes in the oven, I was figuring on these coming out cakey (which is ok, not my favorite but I figured the flavor would make up for the texture). But WOW they came out oh-so-yummy-fudgy. This is definitely a keeper. I wonder if making it with another liqueur would work as well.... I was thinking of trying it with ameretto. Ann T, if your cooking is as good as it looks, and I'm sure it is, you wouldn't have to lie about what's in it! In Barbara Kingsolver's new book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, she points out that when you use good, seasonal veggies that have been bread for flavor rather than shipping, you don't have to fool kids into eating them because they'll taste wonderful. Okay, spinach is my favorite veggie, but I don't know. That recipe doesn't look like it has nearly enough chocolate for my taste. Anyway, tests have shown that chocolate is a health food, so why not substitute perfectly good dark chocolate for the spinach in that recipe, and make a good spinach dish with what you don't put into the brownies. I guess it's that part about having to let it cool completely before the spinach taste goes away. Hmmm, that worries me a bit. Sally

thanks everyone for the replies. yeap poor everybody. nope she never apologizes for anything. Ima, you nailed it. family is not and never was a priority for neither BM nor her family. the thing is that according to both DDs and SO (whom i do believe now because I always thought they exagerrated) when BM didn't drink, she still ruined every occassion and always stirred something. so it is not as much drinking. she also always picked a fight wiht SO's family, some of SO's cousins wanted to come to the wedding but didn't because they were scared of BM starting a commotion. She did not talk to most of SO's family for one reason or the other. Unless his family are very skillfull actors, they seem nice and I do get along wiht them, they all very easy going and very family focused, which she is NOT. after I observed her for the past week i do understand all her crazy phone calls, emails and why DDs don't want to go to her house and if they do why they come back in tears and red faces. it also seemed strange that this woman was the one who left SO (and younger DD who was still a minor) for this man. I can't even describe how he looks and how he behaves. ima, DD27 was almost estranged for awhile not talking to BM because of how mom left dad (she moved everything out of the house -furniture dishes everything while SO and younger DD-still a minor were out of town), she moved all her and family stuff into apartmnent that she secretly rented with that drunk BF. she didn't say anything to anyone so when SO and his younger DD came home house was empty, mom and everything besides bedrooms is gone. later she left voice mails to both DDs that she moved out and now lives at such and such address wiht TOM. after divorce though she bought a house where she lives wiht this "classy" guy.

We just ate ours. I made a mixed berry sauce for on it, and topped it with Dream Whip.

You know what is funny? About every year a post is on our KT about this cake (I've posted 2x) and it NEVER fails to get a big bunch of happy replies & kudos for the recipe. I KNEW it was gonna happen-that's why the 1st sentence of my post said 'here we go again'....gotta love it!

It's always been a family favorite . . . I've been having a hard time lately, as my dad died last month. Family is everything . . . I don't know what else to say, but I'm glad you enjoyed the cake.

HOT MILK CAKE RECIPE
from pixistix

4 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 1/4 cups flour
2 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups milk
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

Beat eggs and sugar well. Combine flour with bk. powder and add to egg mixture along with vanilla. Heat milk and butter together until butter melts; gradually add to batter, beating until well blended.

Pour batter into a greased 9x13 pan or a bundt pan. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes. Old fashioned, simple, melts in your mouth

****I bake mine in a square pyrex dish, and bake it about 45 minutes.

This is what I frosted with, it was posted on Pixies recipe for the cake over on the cooking forum that someone made. But man its perfect on this! AND read the last line of the topping recipe BEFORE you make it! (I didn't!)You will need to double it.

Brown Sugar Topping
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup whipping cream
1 T unsalted butter
3/4 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Combine the brown sugar, whipping cream & butter in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, whisking constantly until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla.
Let stand 10 minutes. Whisk until of spreading consistency. Stir in the pecans. Spread over the brownies or cake. Let stand 1 hour or until set. Serve cold or at room temperature. Makes enough for an 8x8 pan.

Thanks. DD and DGS are visiting the middle of the week, so I may make it for their visit. Then older son will come down for his birthday dinner on the weekend and we will have another cake for his birthday--chocolate.
