Hey YaYa.. How'd your sale go?

We made just over $300 all together, I think the most expensive thing we sold was $18.00 - so not too bad. $150 is mine, DD made just over $100 (mostly on clothing), my Mom made almost $40 and my aunt got about $25. I think we sold about half of what we started with, so I'll be busy the next few weeks listing some things on Craigslist and boxing up a lot for charity.

LOL I was just thinking about asking you the same thing! I made close to $50, friend made $138.00, I think. (She sold a portable tv! LOL) It was pretty busy but a lot of lookers and fewer buyers. I messed up and didn't put the directions ot my house in the ad - just the address and I think that hurt us. Several people said that they had almost given up on finding us. Plus, friend's DH put a sign up at the end of one of the streets and had the arrow going in the wrong direction! LOL

I got rid of a LOT of stuff and friend did, too. Was hoping to sell a display cabinet and a treadmill. A couple of people came in and looked at the treadmill, took down my number and didn't hear from either of them. I'm not gonna GIVE it away! LOL (well, unless it's to one of the kids! LOL)

Isn't it a nice feeling to lessen the load a little? I've got two boxes of stuff to go back in the basement and we took a truck load to the thrift store for a donation. Several items of clothing we donated to Help & Hope.

Yeah it does feel good to lighten the load (and put a little cash in my pocket too!). It's just so much work.

Hey, I'll put my daughter's ab machine thing that didn't sell with your treadmill and we can open a workout place! lol

Although the greens look really great this year and the wreath making is going well....my hands are itching and burning so that I will need to cancel any further wreath making. Often times I wonder if their may be chemicals sprayed on nearby commercial blueberry barrens which when sprayed drift onto the trees green needles which I cut as tips from a local tree farm. The tree farm itself does not do any types of spraying, instead just allows to grow as it will, planned as a mix of pinus strobus (white pine) abies balsam (balsam fir) and Thuya occindentalis (northern white cedar). I pay by the pound to tip on private property. One must have a written document with signature of property owner, or you could be arrested and fined right on the spot- questions later. My probelem is the nearby blueberry barrens and the possible drift of arial sprayings of routine chemicals during the growing season that may be coating the needles and irratating my hands...granted the acidic nature of the greens would do that on their own merit if exposed too long. Pinus strobus is an awesome tree that produces the elegant and popular pine cone which is used and adorned well during the winter season. Its enlongated needles are great for mulching after you are done with your seasonal wreath. Wreaths may also be placed in plastic bags and stored inthe freezer like one would a wedding cake and then taken out up to a year later. Thanks, everybody! So far it is a beautiful and snowy birthday here in Arkansas. Twinkie offered to take me out for lunch. I counter offered with a late breakfast. (He took the bait! LOL He knows I'm getting addicted to these flannel pajamas all day.) So far 60 feels just like 59 did. Fancy that??! LOL Happy Birthday, Pattico, my birthday twin!

Well it turned out DH read the sign at the bottom of the street wrong and it was not the next door neighbor's house but one further up the street. We all walked up there, including DH, DS and dog. Tip to self: Don't take DH with me next time. What a pill he was, "we don't need that, we are suppose to be saving money not spending it" etc. DS and the dog were more fun and we met a lot of the neighbors we hadn't seen in awhile. We all live on 2-5 acres so don't see each other much. And it turned out to be estate sale because the very old man (90 YO maybe) who lived there had a stroke and was going to a nursing home. He pretty much kept to himself and only met him once maybe in 22 years. The wife was nice but she died 5 or more years ago. I wanted to buy some of her watercolors of the yacht harbor but that was when DH started going on and on about money, and where would we hang it, blah, blah blah. Most all of the good stuff was gone by the time we got there in the afternoon except for the watercolors. It was kind of sad too to see someone's life laid out for everyone to pick through. Clare

I found this one to be quite funny. This guy hopefully didn't quit his day job to become a salesman!! Really, really ugly coffee table - $5 (77065 Cy Fair) Okay, this coffee table is ugly. It's REALLY ugly. I can't even believe I'm trying to sell it, it's so ugly. But it's also VERY sturdy. You can sit on it without even worrying about it collapsing beneath you. It'd be really a great thing for someone who just needs SOMETHING to put a big TV on, who wants to bedazzle furniture, or who doesn't want to send the "good" old coffee table to college with her son. I mean, hey, we all need some utility furniture at one time or another, right? Maybe you even want it to refinish it and sell it for megabucks... I promise I won't judge you for buying it if you won't judge me for having it to sell in the first place!We will be home tonight (Sunday) between 6 and 8 if you want to come see it. I had a big day at the sales...got a lot of cool stuff. Spent all my money except for 4 cents...so finally had to go home. :))

Marilyn, I'd much rather GO to sales than HAVE them! LOL

Told Twinkie awhile ago that friend and I were selling hardback novels for $1.00 each and paperbacks for fifty cents. Had a lady with 5 or 6 paperbacks gathered up and asked me if I'd take a dollar for three! Yep - sure will (and did!) Save that 17 cents a piece, lady! LOL He said, "Well, ****, I would have said, "do you want me to GIVE them to you, lady!!?" (Twinkie doesn't have the personality to have garage sales........ROFLMBO)

When I go to sales I usually don't bargain, unless I KNOW it's drastically overpriced.

(Sounds like I need to go to Lydia's and have her buy me lunch! LOL)

I had two garage sales. The first one, a foregn looking woman drove up, looked at my stuff and picked up a glass candy dish I had marked thirty five cents. She asked "Would you take a quarter?" I said yes, she drove away and was back in a few minutes "Ther's a chip on the bottom, I want my money back." I'm a wimp, I gave her the money.
