Bruises can take time to show up and bruising, especially around an incision area, is common after surgery. It should be ok. It is scary, but just keep a close eye on him like you already are. You're doing all the right things. My arms are wrapping around you from far away, sending healing thoughts.

Glad he got checked out and is back home. It is not uncommon for that to happen with Laprascopic surgery/robotic surgery. Hugs to you!

I should have mentioned that I was worried, because the incisions are all in the stomach/abdomen.......the bruising was his left side waist area......deep purple/black. Nowhere near the "battleground".

No sign of any "bruising" till this morning, and it isn't painful. Purplish/black blotches. The incisions are yellowish which is what I expect.

I suppose he could have been bruised there in the process of moving him during or after surgery. I think people need some time to get over the emotional trauma of having HAD surgery, too.

You did the right thing going to ER. Keep a close eye on him when he stands up, etc. Try to relax.

Glad you took him to the ER and got him checked out. Lots of hugs headed your way.

Never hurts to get it checked out. I call it a peace of mind visit. Hope he's feeling better now.

It could be the fluids from the "battleground" area settling downward (while he was sleeping). Years ago my wife got kicked in the forehead by her horse, and a couple of days later the swelling and bruising settled from her forehead downward giving her two black eyes. Unfortunately she was scheduled to present a paper at a conference then, with two shiners.

Just so you know, I'm not one at all to run to the doctor with any little thing. I've never been inside Emerg, and I know of people who practically "live" there.

When we left the hospital (after surgery) the nurse made sure that if anything out of the ordinary were to happen.....bleeding in the urine, pain, to go to emerg. This ugly bruise I thought might have been blood or constipation, and it was quite firm to the touch.

With the hemoglobin low, she was concerned about that, and checked with the hospital to see how it was when he was there.

Jasdip, some of the sites describing the procedure including Urologic Surgeons of Washington say something about what he may have experienced = "Bruising, sometime very dramatic, that is in the xxx (I'm leaving this body part out, clearly you weren't photographing that or you'd be in trouble ;)) or tracks around the flank is extremely common, and rarely of any concern",

I don't find where they describe why. Your hubby's almost looks like it has fingerprints along the bruise.

My brother had a rough 2 or 3 days (after feeling on top of the world the next morning when he was released) in Feb....rough time with whatever the gas is that is used to inflate the abdomen. I wonder if it couldn't end up different places in different bodies...and all he could do was wait until it was dispersed, by his body absorbing and then exhaling it. Hope this isn't too much information, but he likened it to pain of bloated and constipated, when in fact he had to wait to breathe the gas out.

The bruise, combined with not feeling as well as the day before, must have been frightening. I hope he's doing better today. You too ...

We're both feeling great today, our fears are relieved, perhaps it was something to do with the gas that they use to blow up the area to access it.

He has his appetite back, and he's gone number 2 which is a great relief. He's been "tooting" all along, and now that he's had the other, he's definitely heading in the right direction.

We go the surgeon next Friday to get the catheter and staples out.

Happy to hear that all is well with your husband. It was wise to take him in. Frankly, when I saw your post the first thing that occurred to me was an issue with the catheter. (I had major issues some years ago - and have not forgotten.) Friday can not come to soon for you I am sure! Take care.
