Gedmatch, anyone?

I haven't looked at the Gedmatch site yet, but I've been told it's very useful for those interested in genealogy.
I emailed with my cousin Rod in London back and forth last night. He told me about a man named Louis who was born in Russia in the 1940s. His parents were from Poland, and escaped there in 1939. The family lost most of their relatives in the Holocaust, but managed to emigrate to the US a decade later. One of our distant cousins found Louis on Gedmatch. The two paternal ancestors were brothers over 600 years ago! Rod and I are related to Louis in the same way.
My cousin said the family is very nice, and so grateful to find relatives this way, no matter how distant, because so many of theirs were lost in the Holocaust.
DNA matching is a rather technical aspect to genealogy, and I glaze over at the unfamiliar terminology (autosomal/X, etc.), but it's all very interesting.
