Our filly just turned 2 today.

Age 15 minutes

Age 3 weeks

Age 11 months

Age 1 year 11 months

I just realized that her mother cost us $8000 and the stud fee to breed her was $2500,just like the winner of the Derby yesterday, so maybe that is a sign she's destined for great things.

Thank you all so much for the good wishes and the beautiful pictures. I apologize for my unexplained delay in responding to each of you. Our little white poodle, Gwynnie, was diagnosed on Sunday with a dread blood disease and our of our efforts are going in that direction. Thank you all, my dear, dear friends. Yesterday we had one of those days here at our house -- no water for 36 hours, Freya sneaking a pizza off the kitchen counter, and the smell of fresh polyurethane pervading the cold, damp house.... On the other hand, I had the loving affection of Tom and my DS Jacob, calls and cards from family, and greetings from all of you. And tonight we're going out to dinner to try celebrate again. Carla, Luanne, Jon, Anita, Lori, Ingrid, Sue, Carolina, Pamela, and Carol -- each one of your messages brought smiles and memories to my mind. I just realized that with the exception of Ingrid, I know each one of you in the Real World (as opposed to online) -- Ingrid, we'll just have to correct that soon. Thanks for the birthday wishes! This is the 5-0 birthday for me and it's just hard for me to believe it! After yesterday though, I'm FEELING it! LOL The house my boys lived in when they were in college is going on the market today so I was over there painting the kitchen cabinets and staging the bathrooms (cleaned them spic-n-span first). Oh my, I have soreness in places I didn't even know I had places! It probably didn't help that I came home and practically guzzled a bottle of wine while in the hot tub! So I guess 49 went out with a bang and 50 is coming in with a whimper. :-)

She's beautiful, Bob.

I knew Cal Chrome would win the first time I laid eyes on him. He had the legs and the attitude. That horse was struttin' his stuff before he even reached the gate. And he had a very seasoned/wise jockey.

Carmen has pretty legs...and she looks like she has her Daddy's temperament. Definitely a winning combination. What do you want of her?

My wife rides doing show jumping, show hunters, field hunters, eventing, equitation, and fox hunting. The hope is that she'll be a talented jumper with good scope and good form and good movement, with a calm, brave, accepting, can-do attitude, and will be suitable for several of the different type of riding my wife does.

This is my wife at a field hunters trial about a month ago on her thoroughbred.
He has a lot of "go" but not a lot of "whoa" :-)

I'm not familiar with Holsteiners, but what a gorgeous horse! He reminds me of Scheherazade, our Dutch Warmblood.

She is a beautiful girl. Love the action photo of your wife...do you ride too?

This afternoon I watched the highlights from the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event - very impressive riding and jumping - and William Fox-Pitt won again. It's always an amazing event. I don't care for track races like the Derby but jumping fascinates me.

I've only rarely been riding, most recently on vacation in Costa Rica where we rode "horses" through the rain forest.

The problem with riding a mule is that their giant ears poke up into the frame of pictures.

Unless, of course you get a mule with photography-friendly, sideways ears.
