I think hounds is right. Now that I am seeing it in writing. I can never remember if C or M is the 1,000 designation (edited to say, even when remembering a "C" note is a $100 bill)! Dumb me. I can always read it at the end of the movie, but write it, not really.

Along with the Periodic Table, I was obsessed with Roman Numerals in high school. I have no idea why. For period of time on all of my homework, I wrote the date and other things in Roman numerals until Mother Superior called me into her office. I had to write 10 pages front and back..."I will write in Roman Numerals only when asked to". That is the one and only time I was called in :)

Yep, Hounds has it.

What always fascinated me about Roman Numerals was how you subtracted from something. eg 9 is IX - 10 minus 1 or 900 is CM = 1000 minus 100. I loved the puzzle of it. Ok, my secret is out - I was a high school geek.

I love the puzzle of it, too! And, I have nice memories of my Daddy helping me learn Roman Numerals in third grade.
