This is called a Rainbow Eucalyptus tree

By the beach

After our helicopter ride

Me keeping an eye on a crab that was behind me.. lol

We hiked 2 miles into the woods and through a bamboo forest to see this... SOOO WORTH IT!!

This is right before our cruise we went on. We saw whales AND two baby dolphins!

Yeah, I have known about that arboretum, but have never actually been there. From what I've been told, it's more of a swimming hole and picnic area than what I think of as an arboretum. If you've been there and that's not right, let me know. I'll take a look next time I'm there. I thought about posting a bunch of pictures of Kokee, but didn't take the time to sort through them for posting. Most people would probably be surprised to know that that place was in Hawaii. The flora is so drastically different than down in the lower areas. Too bad there's not a Mountain Goat Forum. I got some awesome closeup pictures of them, running around on the narrowest of tiny ledges.

Hello all, Plumie.... I am the one who is now looking forward to seeing your photos this time! I think if we just remember to write a few lines about our plumies in the threads, we wont get into bother as we seem to get a bit side tracked, oh well, it's all very interesting stuff and its to do with gardening I guess. Shane....Good luck with your Yellow Hawaii cutting also, keep us posted? I will do the same. Glad you liked the pics! The white/yellow centre plumie is a 'Celadine', it is the only one I have apart from the cutting. It was one of five from Oz...6" sticks in planted in April 2005, the others rotted, but had I known about this forum, I could have saved them. I have learnt such a lot from here. John...So you have a Red then? We will have to turn this into a competition to see who can get roots first, bet I will be last! I forgot to put perlite around the stem (thanks for reminder) although I did mix it 50/50 with compost. Will have to tip out and re-do it tomorrow. I put a cut off lemonade bottle over the top of the pot to make a little greenhouse, as that is how I got my Celadine to 'get a move on' this spring, but I noticed a bit of grey fuzz on the leaf scars as I guess it was too humid, so I have taken the cover off and am letting the stick dry out more. Hopefully it will not go mouldy again. I am toying with the idea of making heat-box...cardboard box lined with 1cm thick polystyrene sheets, then lined again with aluminium foil, into which a low rated light bulb will be placed. A lid of polystyrene with a hole cut in to slip the plant pot down into the box as far as the 'collar' of the pot. The heat from the light bulb should then be contained in the box and give it constant bottom heat as I fear we are fast approaching autumn over here (outside temps at night have already been below 10deg)and I dont want to loose my cuttting...I tried placing it on top of the lid of the tropical fish tank, over the transformer, but the heat didnt penetrate, (especially when the lights went out at night!!!)do you think this will work? The photo of you at the rainbow eucalyptus tree, and the one of the two of you before the whale watching cruise were taken on Maui. The photos of you on the beach and you watching the crab could have been taken on any of the islands, and the photo after the helicopter ride looks a lot like the Kahului, Maui, airport. But that waterfall looks an awful lot like the Akaka Falls, which is on the "Big Island." If it *is* the Akaka Falls, I totally agree - that 440 foot drop is amazing!

Were you just there in March? That's one of our favorite times to go -- lots of new flowers in bloom with the start of Spring, and plenty of whales to be seen!

We flew into Maui and stayed on that island the whole time. We were there from 3-27 thru 4-1.

Lindsey, have you went on the road to Hana? I think that was my favorite part of the whole trip. Soooo beautiful!! Those waterfalls were at a place after Hana. They start with a "w"... I was not good at the names of places the whole time we were there.. and I kept practicing too.. lol

Yes, we've driven the road to Hana, and we've also driven the "back way" back again -- the road that the car rental companies tell you not to take. :-) It's not paved the entire way, but it's not a bad road at all, and the scenery is awesome. We've also driven all the way around the West Maui side (again - the car rental companies tell ya not to go that way).

The Hawaiian language takes a bit of getting used to. The thing to remember is that there are only eight letters in the Hawaiian alphabet, and when you see a word, any word, you pronounce every letter. So, for example the street name "Honoapiilani" is pronounced

ho no ah pee ee lahn ee
