What's for dinner Thursday?

Sure is nice having the kids here. They slept really late this morning since they took the red-eye from San Francisco Tuesday at midnight their time. They're adjusting now, though.

Tonight we're having hamburgers topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms (no bun), French potato salad and fruit salad. I'm hungry!

patti, dinner sounds yummy and know you are enjoying the kids.

We're under severe weather warnings, nothing on tv when there are tornado watches and warnings in the viewing areas except the weather men.

So ran to Miss Myra's for a cup of yummy old fashioned smoked chicken salad, with crackers and a pickle spear.

Hunkered in for the rest of the day.

I was going through some old emails and found one, giving DD a recipe for vegetable soup, and that's what I'm going to make. In this one, I grind up all the vegetables, rinsing the potatoes to rid them of excessive starch. From there, it's pretty much what I have in the vegetable bin......tonight being the potatoes, carrots, green pepper, celery, onion, some cabbage, after I brown a pound or so of ground beef. Maybe some mushrooms will wend their way soupward. Wish I had a rutabega.

Old Fixer, I find that the weeds are terrible to pull when the soil is bone dry. I usually leave the root in the soil. :( Fun, I smiled when I read what your dinner was. Did you pop it on the stove, or microwave? We had chili from the freezer. I like mine over rice with a dollop of yogurt to tame the heat.

Lots of variety for dinner this evening! Shirley, I love days that have no interruptions. Even days that I plan to stay home and get caught up on things, there are usually reasons to head out or someone comes over. Stuffed peppers sure sound good! Pam a BLT is good anytime. That's usually what hubby orders when we go out for breakfast (he doesn't do eggs) Angela we had corn on the cob on the weekend and nuked it with the husks on. Have you tried that? OF we were in a store today and the Halloween stuff was out along with back-to-school supplies. Rhizo, I love the sound of your dinner every time you have that! B.e. peas I doubt I would like but that would be easy to leave out. I remember you said once it was a mix that you buy. Phyllis, eating frozen grapes made me smile, then I saw the radish sandwich. I feel sorry for you LOL. Maybe we should all send you a bit of our dinners, and you'd have a feast! KIttiemom, everytime I see you having shrimp scampi I want it. But we never buy shrimp. I'm going to have to just buy a bag of frozen ones once and for all and make it. :)

Soft foods...yuck!!! I had sinus surgery last Friday and still can't do any chewing for another week. I am sick of yogurt, broth, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, etc... My dream meal for tonight is a crusty sourdough baguette slice topped with olive tapenade. My entree will be a steak with sautÃÂ©ed mushrooms and a ceasar salad and more crusty bread! A big peanut butter cookie for dessert!

Jasdip, we put a big pork butt on the grill over the weekend and enjoyed it with a pile of slaw. It's a full day commitment but seemed like a good Labor Day weekend project. Last night, I made a garlicky, gingery chicken stir fry with lots of fresh vegetables, served with brown rice and toasted almonds. I don't know why I don't make something like that more often, it's a favorite.

We are having pork tamales with chili and cheese.

Last night was Wine and Dine. Had a lovely dinner....Seafood trio and tonight is dinner out again. Celebrating 54 years of wedded bliss. Don't know what I'm having but it's my favorite restaurant. Whatever I decide on, I'm sure it will be good.

I fixed chicken w/stovetop stuffing in the crockpot. Sides were mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli.

Patti, have a great time with the kids. We got rained out from work today so I was home early. I decided to make ravioli & sausage lasagna. This is not hard to make & I will have leftovers for tomorrow.

Weather storm watch all day and overnite. Freezing rain and ice accumulation. Yuck

Made a lentil soup. I bought some lentils because they are so healthy and we quite enjoyed it. Onions, carrot, cumin, garlic, tomato paste, chicken broth. It was really good. Definitely will make it again. These were red lentils. I cooked some green last week and threw them in with a some black beans, rice, corn etc etc. It was awesome as well.

I had some steak taquitos in the freezer, so having those and made some spanish rice and guacamole to go with them.

Glenda, saw on the news you may be in for some nasty weather. Pray you stay safe.

Phyllis, didn't you just have a blizzard or at least a lot of snow? Hope I'm wrong about that. It's Spring, for heaven's sake! Your soup recipe sounds really good, even without the rutabaga.

Raven, those tamales sound wonderful. I couldn't eat another bite--but maybe a tamale would taste good :-)

Yum, Shirley! I make that every once in a while and it always tastes so good. French potato salad doesn't have eggs or mayo. It's just red potatoes, dill, parsley and green onion with a red wine vinegar dressing. The kids loved it. Last time I made it I used rice wine vinegar and I liked it better that way. Forgot to add, we also had a delicious beefsteak tomato that the kids bought at the farmer's market this afternoon. It was just great.

Mary, making ravioli sure sounds difficult to me. It also sounds delicious! Glad you got some time to rest your knees!

Jasdip, sure hope you and DH don't have to get out in that awful weather. I'm sure the soup warmed you both up!!

Marilyn, I need me some guacamole! Do you put garlic in yours? I do--just because I put garlic in just about everything. Did you have a sauce for the taquitos? I used to order them at a restaurant when we lived in G-ville and it had a great cilantro tasting sauce--and I didn't think I liked cilantro til then.
