These are the guys that gave "ALL " for our country,and this is their homecoming that Delta does.

lady alicia, in answer to your question on the Profusions. I have grown them for years, and they are excellent flowers, but I have a few reservations. The Cherry Profusions have a bad habit of fading badly in my heat. They fade to the point that they are unattractive. I am going to try the Zahara cherry this year to see if it is better. The straight Orange and Apricot Profusions also fade in my heat, though not as badly as Cherry. Fire is spectacular and never gives up the entire season. It is pretty nigh onto the perfect flower, as is the White Profusion. You must remember that my growing season for zinnias runs from April to November, with sometimes 3 solid months of above 90 in the daytime and hardly below 70 at night. I suspect that more northern growers do not experience the problems I have. The yellow Profusion, as I noted above, gets taller than the other Profusions I have grown, tends to flop from the center, and had problems with black spots on the leaves late in the season. That being said, it was still a blooming machine and did awfully well in my brutal climate. On the other hand, the Zahara Yellows that I grew the year before had none of PY's problems, therefore, I rate them higher. You need to know that Profusions have a smaller sized bloom than the familiar tall ones like Benary's Giants. I love their short size and smaller blooms for edgings in my borders. The front edges are, in my opinion, the most important plants in the border, as any imperfections show up first at the close range from which they are viewed. In my opinion only, I think the smaller bloom size is in a more pleasing scale with their shorter stature. This, of course, is strictly a matter of taste. Zenman, after reading your post yesterday, I went ahead and ordered from Hazzards. I got Chippendale, Zowie Yellow, Aztec Sunset, Queen Lime, Queen Red Lime, and threw up my hands and ordered Starlight Rose too. Lest you think I will have a garish mishmash, these will be scattered throughout three large borders, and some will be planted for the fall garden only. I am very excited to see how they all do! Hazzards did not have Old Mexico, but that was the only one on my list they did not have. I will trial it next year.

Thanks for sharing that Ron. I did not know any of those stories. They all touched me, and they made me think of many other stories there are out there. I travel a lot on my job and in pursuit of my other passion in life; trout fishing. I see men and women in uniform in almost every airport I travel to, but I particularly see many on my trips to Charlotte. Some of these folks are going "over there" (or getting ready to) and a few of them I've met were coming home. I never go by without letting these people know that many people here at home, whom they have never met, care deeply about them, worry for them, wish them a swift and safe return, and thank them for their service. I hope these people never ever want for their fellow Americans respect and concern. And I hope that if you are reading this that you will reach out to these people when you see them in your own life, shake their hand, thank them for the job they do, and let them know in some small but sincere way that you care. You'll be doing that person and yourself a great deal of good in the process.

I did one upside down hoping to get a curled trunk like I saw someone post a pic of. A new spout came up right side up from the roots and the original part died. I guess it fixed itself, lol. I stopped by a customers house a few weeks ago to pick her up and she had these cool plants that looked like water plants but they were in the ground and she gave me some and told me to cut the umbrella looking leaves in half and put in a vase of water upside down and that how you root them. I did and sure enough they are getting roots. She said you could grow them in a pond or in a pot or the ground just keep moist. I'll post a pic of them when I remember to take one.

This is an article from an Atlanta newspaper which gives some additional information about this practice. It was started in 2005 by a baggage handler who was also a veteran. The participants are all volunteers.

Another wife of a Vietnam vet. What a a turn around from the days my DH had to go into the bathroom when he landed to take off his uniform because of the horrendous way the soldiers were treated on leave.
And you can rest assured those coming back in coffins did not get the respect that was shown in this video.
So, glad we have come a long way.

A wonderful tribute. And much more moving with the musical accompaniment. Who knows who wrote and is singing that very moving song. I just last week heard him talking about it on RFD TV.

When i returned from Nam the first time in 66 i was spit on and cursed by a bunch of hippies at San Francisco Int. Airport. The second time in 69 wasn't much better but at least i wasn't spit on only cursed at. Something you never forget.

Another wife of USMC Vietnam Vet and am also moved to tears. It was very sad that our veterans were treated badly back then,....but not all were. Back then a great many were greeted at Bases like Andrews and Travis and had full military honors bestowed upon them, as did the troops. The "ugly" stuff happened, no doubt , and the hurt will be forever felt.... maybe that is why we are so "moved" by the honors that ordinary citizens are giving to our "voluntary" warriors today.

I will have to watch this later - I don't want to cry right now...and it sounds like I will!
I too have a USMC Vietnam Vet. When he came home on emergency leave for a death in the family, he flew in through San Fran. He had some time to waste, so he tried to get a hamburger...and was refused.
I don't know what is more scarring, the horror they went through over there, or the horrible way they were treated over here.
He currently helps as part of the honor detail for funerals - mostly elderly.
He can't emotionally handle KIA services.

ahhh Moni!! so glad you saw this...It's been around for awhile, in fact I posted it on my facebook page quite awhile ago...It makes me cry everytime and let me tell you how it feels to be the flight attendant working that flight...I've been on two and it's all I can do to keep it together...the whole situation is very moving and very respectful to our fallen soldiers...

It's one of the reasons I work the military charters as often as I can...we owe so much to the veterans and soldiers who are keeping our country safe...providing them with a good and fun flight is the least I can do...several flight attendants acknowledge the soldiers on our flights and thank them for their service to our country...working these flights is my own little personal way of thanking them for our service to our country!!

As far as Lee Greenwood...that man rocks!! He has done more USO tours than any other star known...I had a chance to meet him several years ago when Delta did a party thanking the military...He was there and spoke and told why he wrote the song...His Daddy was a WW2 vet (navy) and it was done in his honor...I had on my nephews bracelet who was killed in the Pentagon on 9/11...I made my way to the front of the crowd to meet him and gave him Jack's bracelet...he grabbed me and hugged me and told me he would be honored to wear my nephews bracelet...It meant the world to me!!

DELTA LOVES THE MILITARY!! and we are proud to serve them!!
