| for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. Last time it was because the ends of the bridge and the roads leading to it were under a few inches of water.
THIS week- it's 'cause the whole bridge is under water! This is an historic one-lane suspension bridge and I doubt if it'll reopen soon, there will be damage that will have to be fixed. Trees and propane tanks, etc, are smashing into the side of it. This is really bad for a lot of people, we'll have to go the really long way to get to shopping, parents, work, etc. I hope it's not closed for too long, but a couple of months wouldn't surprise me. We are having the weirdest springs- 2 years ago we had really big, bad hail. Last year, a killer freeze and it ruined the crops of all the fruits, berries and nuts, not to mention killed all the new greenery in early spring. Now flooding. I guess our drought is over, do you think? (That's me looking on the bright side, but I bet people with flooded houses aren't feeling too bright right now. They were up all night evacuating their homes. I really hope they have flood insurance.) This is not good. The Army Corp of Engineers is letting out a ton of water and it's raising water levels all the way down the White River chain of lakes and dams and wreaking havoc. We've had a really wet spring and about twice our usual amount of rainfall. With our hills, it runs into the lake and fills it up dangerously high and they have to let some out. The gates are open 9.5 feet, the highest EVER. This is upriver- the white thing is the top of a shed that was completely under water earlier. |

| So sorry to hear about the flooding! I love that suspension bridge! We enjoyed riding on it on the motorcycle! In fact the first time we planned to cross it and had to wait on the vehicle coming this way...it was you, FlamingO!!! Cool! I sure hope they don't have to make too many changes in the bridge when they do repairs. It seems that here when an older bridge needs repairs, they tear it down, or move it and and build a new one in its place. I really love the old bridges! I guess you are protected where you live since it's on the side of the mountain, right? We've been very dry here this spring. Wish you could send some of that rain our way, but not the flooding! |

| I've never been over the Bridge, but I think I've seen it. Is that the one under the Beaver Dam from Beaver Lake. If so, Main Man's Son has a weekend home on Beaver Lake. Last time we were there they had a draught. The problem they have is the Floating Dock with changing water levels. Last time we were there some dock's were hanging off cliffs. Gayle |

| I like that old bridge also and if I remember correctly they had a nice campground there on the river too. It's been a bad spring for flooding here as well. My parents live 3 miles from the Mississippi and I hope they won't have to deal with the flooding this year. My Dad is getting too old for that. He kept it out of the house last time (1993?) by sandbagging and running pumps...it really aged him though cause he didn't get any sleep and lost about 20 lbs. in just those couple weeks. |

| MaryAnn, I love my mountain! We will never have to worry about flooding here unless it starts inside the house. I hope the bridge is repairable, we fought off an attempt for a new one a couple of years ago. We love our bridge and want to keep it. And I loved meeting you and Jammer at the bridge, that was so funny! This is the bridge that is about 5 miles downstream from the dam, Gayle. I'm glad to have water in our lake again, but this is a bit ridiculou. Lydia, I hope you parents fare well thru all this. I remember that flood, it was really cold then, wasn't it? So many places flooded that year. Poor dad! And I got a great shot of the campground sign today with something on it that says "temporarily closed". Yeah, no kidding. It's ALL under water. |

Here's the pic I took of the bridge in 2002. Those are great pictures on your link Flamey. |

| Oh geesh, it's feast or famine. I hope there isn't to much damage to that bridge. Your link has such beautiful pictures on it. Leslie |

| I remember the bridge rather fondly too. We drove over it, because of Flamey's recommendation. Here are the pictures we took of it, plus one of Flamey and me. Moni |

| I feel your pain, girlfriend! I'll try and get a photo tomorrow of what our White River Bridge looks like. Can't believe it's starting to flood again. The report says at least a foot higher than it was the last time! Sheesh! |

| Gracious me, that's awful. Sure hope the bridge doesn't suffer too much damage from that. I swear the rains have been terrible. Here's a picture of the highway 106 east from Alley Springs here in Mo. The rain just washed away the soil underneath. They are starting work on it right away as it is a main road for tourists going to Alley Springs, canoing on the rivers and the trail rides in Eminence. It's about halfway between us and our DD in Eminence. Everyone coming or going from there has to take a long way around. Got another 4-1/2 inches of rain Wed. night. |

| It's pretty amazing, the power and force a lot of rain can produce. And the damage. Oh, my. Donna, that road is a mess! I'm glad they're getting right on it. Tourism is a powerful motivator! Fortunately for us, tourism is big here, too, so I hope that means they'll fix our bridge as quickly as possible. YaYa, I feel really bad for you guys who are at the end of the runoff, where as we are just at the beginning of it. You're going to get really clobbered by it, I'm afraid. I think the next week is supposed to be dry around here, so that's good. We need to dry out some, we can't even mow without the mower sinking up to its axels in soft ground. |
