Measuring and cutting butter Grrrr

We Canadians have our butter in 1-lb blocks. Like your blocks of shortening and lard. I unwrapped this and re-wrapped it for the pic which is why it looks messy.

When I bring butter home, I unwrap it and using the measurements on the wrapper, cut it into 1/4 cup slices and freeze.

But when I started to cut this one, at the first 1/4 cup at the far right, there is a large space at the end of the butter and the measurement. If I cut it where it measures 1/4 cup it is remarkably smaller than the next 1/4 cup.

Grrrrrr. My first thought is that they shrunk the size of the butter, but they are still 454 grams ( 1 lb). So I took a wrapper of another brand of butter and used those measurements to cut my slices. This is all very aggravating.
